Brakes and tire size
 
Morning all,

I purchased my GC in Apr 2011. I have had no problems at all with it. I live in CO and have taken it up some trails but nothing wild and crazy by CO standards. Mostly old jeep roads etc... believe it or not it is still stock with the Michelin Latitudes(with trail package?!). It is approaching 23k miles and I feel compelled now to get them gone...

so a couple of reputable places around here are familiar with the RRO 2.5 lift and are willing to install it. I am looking at tires and am leaning towards some GY duratracs or Nitto Trail grapplers. Now this was a long winded way of asking did you all upgrade brakes at all when plus sizing you tires?

I am on 1010tires with there calculator and they reco that anything over 3% could cause brake failure etc? I am going to try and squeeze in some 33s with spacers but don't want to overheat brakes etc.. I dont' see much on people upgrading brakes when they plus up Thanks.

Is your Jeep a HEMI or a Pentastar?

Pentastars have 330mm size rotor with solid rotors in the rear BRY Sales code standard Duty

Hemis have 350mm sized rotors with vented rotors in the rear. BR6 Sales code Heavy Duty.

The least expensive first step to upgrading your brakes would be to find a pad with a more aggressive compound.

The european sales code BR1 uses a different pad from the US spec SD and HD brakes but all of them use the same size caliper in front it may be quite possible that the EURO front pads are more agressive so you could give those a shot 68052386AA

I realized I should have stated that once you replied! lol Yes it is a Hemi. So "heavy duty" then tells me I'm good to go!

Yes but you can still find a more agressive brake pad like the Hawk HPS or LTS pads. I have yet to find any literature that says what the difference is between the two types.

I do know from my previous use on a 2001 JGC ZJ that Hawk LTS improve initial bite and overall grip improved when I installed these.

I also had a setof Hawk LTS pads on My 2004 VW Toureg V6 and the were a very good progressive pad.

The did not seem to produce that much dust for to me a person that washes their car weekly either.

I could recommend other brands of brake pads but there are not much out there for the WKS currently.

I have towed my race cars (5000lb of load) with 31.5" tires for probably 15k miles on my first wk2, and the brakes worked great, and still had pad left when I traded at 47k miles. So you will be fine, especially with 31-32" sizes. My speedo was 2-3mph off, but it caused no problems. The 32" sizes fit very well, look great (are the right scale) and require little to no trimming, I would choose those sizes over 33's.
