Auxilary Gauge Mounting Locations

So, on the later WJ's the grab handle gets in the way of mounting a gauge pod on the pillar and I am looking around the dash for mounting locations and see this place and think that it's possible to mount a 2 & 1/16 gauge in this place behind the tilt wheel control:

Removed this piece which is held in place by four friction clips and found this:

The space behind the panel looks like this:

I am thinking about making a cardboard mock-up of this piece and taking it one step further. I have considered one on the other side but the power pedal controls are located there. This one will be the transmission temp gauge. I will likely use a gauge pod mounted at the base of the a-pillar for the oil pressure gauge. Oil pressure is more important to watch.

Id like to see a mock up of how your mounting it. Will be interesting to see how it looks.

I hope to try the mock-up this afternoon. I don't have the gauge but can work on the template.

I have not given up on this. PML pan tapped for the temp sensor is installed giving me more motivation to dive into this.

This is the view from the wheel which is what first gave me the idea...

Are you planning on mounting it flat on that piece facing straight forward? Or are you going to try and angle it toward you?

Not sure yet. Angled towards me would be nice but not sure if it is possible. I will likely try adapting these to fit the curved surface.

That shouldnt be to hard fitting those to the curved surface. Now you got me looking at mine thinking about trying the same thing haha

What about individual pods and mounting them on dash? Kind of.like wrx/sti setup.

That is exactly why I shared it on the forum - I like to mess with peoples heads. I would consider the same on the other sided but don't want to mess with the power pedal controls.

Too much flash for me. I like to keep things subtle and out of the way. Maybe that is cause I am getting old.... :slapfight:

there is always that other option and unscrew the grab handle on the A pillar. i don't even think there was a time that i have ever touched the grab handle at least on the drivers side. i don't think it will be an issue for the air bags either since those are above.
