Ebay WK2 Replica wheels

Hi All,

First let me say I think I screwed up buy not going with a vendor known to the site. I'm having vibration issues with a staggered set of 20" WK SRT8 replicas.

Iíve pretty much given up on the wheel/tire combo and gone back to the OEM set up but I have one more idea to try out and I could use your input/advise.

I had expected to reuse the OEM Overland lugs but they were too large in diameter to fit into the recesses of the replica wheels, so I got some from the tire store.

When I put the OEM wheels/tires back on, I noticed that the bevel face on the lug nuts appeared to be untouched and the only contact appeared to be at the widest point in the taper.

I compared them to the OEM lugs and they both have a 15 degree taper.

I looked up lug nuts for the WK2 Jeeps on Summit's site and they show a "bulge" type. The ones I was using are not the bulge type.

Is it possible that the vibrations are caused by the non-bulge lug nuts?

Other details: I've tried two makes of tires and both have been road-force balanced. The vibrations are pretty strong, the steering wheel shakes and the Jeep just feels nervous at any speed about 45 mph.

Thanks for reading my post,

=Bill

yes...you need bulge lugnuts. Just bite the bullet and get the oem SRT lugnuts

Thanks Scott.

I couldn't find fitment for the WK2 SRT8 but so I tossed a coin and and ordered a set of lug nuts for a 2010 WK:

McGard 64010 Chrome Bulge Cone Seat Style Lug Nuts (1/2" - 20 Thread Size) - Set of 4 : Amazon.com : Automotive

Maybe I should I kill that order and head to the dealer?

While I'm post whoring...

Another thing that might hint to the wrong lug nuts is that they are 3/4" hex and not 13/16 as teh ZGorilla application guide specifies.

Looking at the Gorilla lug but site, I get the impression that the max diameter of the the conical taper is relative to the hex size.

In the following linked picture, I have the nuts in column 4 and the application guide says I need the nuts in column 5:

Gorilla Automotive Products - Lug Nuts, Wheel Locks, Auto Security, Wheel Accessories

Thanks Scott. Ordered cancelled.

Any thoughts on the non-locking gorilla 66147?

I'm going to stop by the Jeep dealer and see how bad they price the OEMs but it would be good if the gorillas worked.

I have the oem's off my 2013 and they dont look like that. They are like the ones I linked. Thoise say they are 14mm x 1.5...so they should be ok for the stock wk2 wheels...not sure about the wk2 SRT wheels though. I would get the oem if I were you or get an oem equivelant like what i linked. i only got the gorilla for the locks and they are black.

I think I'll follow your advice and order the ones you linked. I'm at work and the wheels are at home. I'm thinking the recess in the wheel is too small for the 13/16 hex.

UPDATE: Order placed with SFX

Update:

No luck with different lug nuts.

The dark look of the GEN 2 wheels just didn't grow on me and the random steering wheel shake was very annoying. I liked the staggered look but it would have been handy to be able to swap the wheels around to figure out which one(s) was causing the problems.

I went to Americas tire this morning and ordered a set of Factory Reproductions GEN 1 Jeep SRT wheels in 20x9 painted silver.

I first tire I tried were Yoko Paradas (had them on my Magnum SRT8) but they are prone to mild flat-spotting on cold mornings. The flat spots would smooth out after a while but I only drive ~3 miles to work and hit the freeway a few blocks from my house.

The second tire I tried was the Falken Ziex ST/Z 04, less of a performance tire but great for a daily driver. Not as sticky and precise as the Paradas (H-rated) but no flat-spotting and great hydroplaning resistence (I'm in Oregon). I will reuse the 265/50R20 Falkens now on the front and have two more coming with the wheels.

I might get lucky and have them by Friday.

Moral of the story, I should have purchased from a known vender (FR) in the first place.

Thanks for listening,

=Bill
