Poll: WK Burnt bulbs already?

When i bought my 05 WK last year I noticed there were no lights for the heater control unit, so i thought it was normal since its a basic WK Laredo. But i just changed them and now I have lights there, but now just noticed the ESP button light is out. I just took the whole unit out again and about to swapp all the stock bulbs to blue leds.

Seeing how many other people has this happened to, why do they burn out so quick. And its not like changing a regular bulb, they are soldered onto the cuircut board and a pita to change.

I had my AC units replaced once for the same reason.

X2. That happened with the Overland.

i am thinking it is because that area gets super hot. regardless of the season, my climate control area and the metal piece surrounding it get so hot that it can almost burn you to the touch. i see no reason for that getting that hot with only leds behind it.

The stock bulbs are NOT leds, they are regular bulbs. I am changing them now to leds though, having to install resistors with them. I just changed out a heater control bulb that was actually cracked, so im thinking it must of been really hot in order to do that.

This stock bulb is def not an LED.

So far I have replaced all 3 heater control unit bulbs with leds and just got done replacing the esp button light. It is really time consuming, but thats because i have never done it before so im learning as I go. I will try to do a nice write-up on swapping out the control bulbs in the How-To threads to give people ideas. Like i just wrote in another thread, I soldered a new led w/resistor in the esp button location but when I hooked it back up for a trial run I wasnt able to turn off the esp feature, come to find out because of the added resistor I had to trim some of the rubber boot thing so it fits over the resistor and the rubber points can make perfect contact with the cuircut board. Took me 30 min to figure out, so maybe this helps people if they decide to ever do it themselves. It takes time, but I spent like 5 bucks for 50 blue leds w/resistors, so its alot cheaper than buying a new unit just because of burnt bulbs. But I think Jeep should be shot for using these small dam bulbs soldered onto cuircut boards because it sux to fix for the do it yourselfer.

I am installing blue leds, and its a nice blue that matches my Pioneer radio. Its odd though because the stock bulbs are actually blue also. But when the esp light worked it glowed a greenish color, now its bright blue. so to answer your question, yes. This pic is of my new blue leds installed in the heater control unit. Ill take some of the esp button shortly.

I think you can change it to white, blue, or red. Or a green using leds. whatever leds come in you can swap to.
