Re: Door Panel Removal

It gets more difficult every new model. I almost hate to touch them anymore. Doing so can result in rattles, and broken items. I once broke a power mirror switch (on a different ride). Gone are the days of pulling OE head units in 10 seconds (remember the FORD radios with U-tools for removal). I want to do my Jeep soon, but I rarely drive it (the wife does).

Re: Door Panel Removal

I don't find it to be all that hard at all.

I have removed my door panels more than a few times and they are fine.

I did couple times when I replaced my mirrors and they when I replaced my door handles.

It is very straight forward.

You should find a panel removal tool I use mine all the time even for getting out those to stupid rivets in the wheel arches.

The one thing that I wish the would fix was the fact that jeep does not use one type of fastener consistantly. So to remove the door panel, you need a 10mm socket and a philips head screwdriver.

I bookmarked this a while back for when I do it, have not attempted it yet though. Page 31.

X2, it gets easier after the first time you do it. Make sure the fasteners are lined up before securing the panel back on.

I have used these dozens of times:

5 Piece Auto Trim and Molding Tool Set

$7 well spent. Metal ones (or screwdrivers) will scratch the heck out of your paint. These won't.

Snap on panel popper. Best tool you will ever find for removing panels, hell I use it on everything. Have the three piece set. Pricey but absolutly invaluable

Re: Door Panel Removal

I have one problem with the door panel removal and I have downloaded the PDF. I cannot figure out how to remove the plastic panel in front of the bolt under the door handle. I don't want to break it and even though I see the picture I cannot figure it out. The rest of it looks straight forward. Any help would be much appreciated.

This is for my 2011 Grand Cherokee.

Thanks in advance

Re: Door Panel Removal

I used a very tiny flat head screwdriver and worked my way around, it popped off no problem.
