Is there any way?

is there any way to make the stock 6 disc cd changer work with a nav bezel?

I am really not very happy with my Kenwood Deck and i am considering putting my 6 disc unit back in and just buying a Mopar Ipod integration kit.

But i dont want to loose my nav bezel and i just got a Garmin for X mas so i dont want to spend $$$ on a stock nav unit.

I was thinking of trying to make something custom but i am not sure how well that will work out. Basically i would have to mount the stock 6 disc then make a bezel to fill in the gap around the 6 disc to fit the nav bezel.

Does anyone have any ideas?

does the metra d-din adapter help you in any way...... i have a spare one if you want to mess with it.

I have the metra adapter right now, i am thinking of cutting up my old 6 disc bezel for the main shape of the part and then attach that to the Double din adapter and bondo/fiberglass it, sand it and paint it.

I'd say build as much of it as you can with wood popsicle sticks (can't be more than a few bucks for a hundred of them at Wal-mart). After that use Bondo filler and lay a coat of it on top of the sticks. Then sand, fill where needed, sand again, fill where needed, sand... you get it. Paint to match!

Thats a really good idea. I am going to take my stock 6 disc bezel and cut out the square shape from the bezel as large as possible so i have a nice clean shape around the 6 disc changer. Then i am going to take that and attach it to the metra bezel that will fit in to the nav bezel. Once its all permanently fixed together i am going to use body filler on it sand it nice and paint it gloss black. Then it should fit right in to the stock nav bezel. I will start on this on tuesday and take pics as i go.

I already have an interested buyer in my kenwood deck as well so i can make some extra $$ to pay some bills.

I did some tinkering last night with the stock 6 disc bezel. I cut the front rectangular shape off the bezel right on the factory lines. I will post pics later.

What i have now is a flat surface that fits the 6 disc perfectly and now i can cut that square to fit the metra double din bezel.

Then all i need to do is attach the two parts together (i am going to use epoxy and some little pins to make sure it is a solid fit. Then i will use body filler on the face to blend it, sand and paint.

Should have it all done and ready for paint on tuesday.

I think this is going to be easier then i thought.

Here are a few pics. I started to mod the old bezel piece i cut out. Then i figured i would re install the old 6 disc unit to see what will work.

There are two different mounting positions on the stock dash. One for the stock deck that is low and one for the aftermarket decks and the nav unit. The stock 6 disc has 2 tabs that make it fit only in the lower mounting position. I removed these tabs and mounted the 6 disc in the nav location centered in the nav bezel.

Now all i need to do is take the old stock bezel and cut it to shape to fill in the nav bezel and paint.

The cut stock 6 disc bezel face.

Same picture with the stock 6 disc bezel face. Needs trimming and paint and job is done.

This mornings efforts. Trimmed the Old Bezel to fit, used 5 min Epoxy to set it while its in the jeep in place. eating lunch. After its 100% dry i will remove it, and i am going to finish filling the gap on the bottom with epoxy and glue from behind as well. Then it will get sanded, flexible bondo, sanded and painted.

Finished Epoxying the bezel together.

The front.

Once it has cured over night i will need to go back and trim off some excess epoxy from the back and start sanding the front of the bezel. Once it is all sanded i will give it a nice light coat of flexible bondo and then sand that. I doubt i will get any more work done this week. I will continue to work on it this up coming weekend.

Re: Is there any way?

Thanks, its coming out alot better then i thought. My biggest concern is the next few steps, I am going to sand it really well so the bondo adheres and then i want to be very careful with the bondo and use as little as possible because i want a nice clean smooth factory looking surface when its done.
