Service Interval Question

I took my Overland in for its 8k service, no problem On the ride home, I notice a Mopar Service Sticker in the upper left portion of the windshield noting I should "next" bring in the car for service at 10,689 miles. Since the manual states 16k is the next service level, I email the service manager at the dealership but get no response. I am certain I know the answer to this question, but is anyone aware of any other service intervals not outlined in the manual? As far as I can see, 6k should be my next stop for service. TIA.

Re: Service Interval Question

My dealer does the same thing...and the sticker goes in the trash. Same outfit tried that for my wife's Subaru Outback and completely lost our service business unless it's for something warranty because of it. They insisted over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over...that the vehicle manual was wrong, something that Subaru took our side on.

I'll be following the 8K interval since my driving doesn't fall into any of the few categories that suggest shorter intervals.

Re: Service Interval Question

Same with my Lincoln. According to their stickers, I should bring in the car every 5K miles. The service manual, however, clearly says 7.5K miles and that's what I'm sticking to.

That's all I need to do to keep the warranty valid - so if something fails, it's covered - even without the "5K service"...

10,689 is oddly specific...

Re: Service Interval Question

Perhaps it had 7698 miles on the clock? Most dealers put a 3K mile sticker on out of habit and their policy. Every time I see one, it lessens my respect for the shop. Dunno if I can trust them for anything.

Re: Service Interval Question

I asked my dealer about his recommended 3,000 mi oil change interval in light of the manual's 8,000 mi interval. He said "some cars" can go longer than 3,000. Because of this and the mess that was left on the under carriage of my WK2, I now do my own maintenance where I can (keeping good records for any warranty problems later).

Re: Service Interval Question

This is a typical dealer ploy (the next service at sticker)and has happened with virtually every car I've ever owned.

Throw out the sticker and "stick" with whats in the owners manual.

jd, I agree with you and that's what we do. That said, what we were taken aback by was the strident lecture we got from the (Subaru) service manager about their dealer policy being xxxx miles and that we needed to follow it. I finally looked them in the eye and asked point blank if they ever wanted to get our service business and if so, to back off on the rude and inaccurate information they were spewing forth. Dude kept going. We haven't been back for service since...

service dept is a money maker for the dealership, service writer and tech in most cases -

I get free oil changes for life at my dealer and my sticker still says every 3000 miles....... On top of that my delaer sold out to another dealer and I even drive to another location and its still honored for every 3K.

I rarely hit the milages so change at 6 month intervals. Works for me.

It did have this number when I brought it in. The oil service warning came on so I went ahead and scheduled. I thougt i would hit the 8k by the time i got to the dealer but didn't. I now remember as i checked in that the service advisor stated something to the effect that the oil should be chnaged every 3k, so this is in line with the sticker. Whatever, will be sticking with the manual. Crooks, all of them.
