Creaking noise from steering wheel turn

My gc which is only 300kms old, is developing a creeking noise when I turn the steering wheel from lock to lock. It's as if two plastic bits are rubbing against each other. Anyone else having this issue? Only happens at low speed, when turning into my drive way. It's really annoying?

Never heard of the problem

Is it when you hold it at full lock? Could be the power steering pump trying to turn further than possible. My Falcon does it at full lock.

Is the 1k free service available to all new owners or is it an arrangement that one has with the dealer? My dealer didn't mention anything about it.

The 1,000 klm service, better known as the "Peace of Mind" service should be available to all owners.
Basically all they do is check the vehicle over to ensure nothing is loose. You should take your car back to the dealer and request they investigate. You do not have to wait for 1,000 klms to come around.

^+1. If you wait for your services to discuss what could be (and is in my case) warranty issues, then you've still got the pain of waiting 2 months for parts. Better to get in ASAP.

I will observe it over the weekend and see if I can video it and run it past you guys first.

Couldn't put up with the rubbing sound coming from the steering wheel any longer. Took it to Heartland Chullora. They suspect a dodgy bearing in the steering as a possible culprit. They have ordered the part and it will arrive 1st week of Jan. Safe to drive but disappointed though.
