Hard to start 2011 WK2

About 4 -5 months ago my Wk2 (3.6 v6) began to have a hard start, initially once a month, but passed some time, it is being harder to start. It is like have no fuel, a very long crank and no start. Only after trying to restart for 2-3 times the cars ignites. After the car is turned on, no problem. I drive it normally, no high or low fuel consumption, neither performance changes, even gas smell
Normally it happens in the morning - when the car is cold, but already happened after just about 2 hours parked.
I thought it was bad gas, and changed it, but continues the same way.
Now I think it must be the fuel pressure regulator, because it runs normally after started.

What do you think? Can somebody help me?

Thanks!

Re: Hard to start 2011 WK2

If I was able to buy a service manual, I'd look for a bad fuel pump relay, GM cars only use to bring pressure up for starting, interlock is through oil pressure sensor after.

Long crank may be to bring oil pressure up and turn fuel pump on that way and without the key-on shot.

However in their infinite wisdom CJF does not allow owners to buy a service manual. Maybe in 2014.

Easiest way to check is connect a fuel pump pressure guage to the fuel rail and watch the pressure as you try to start. If it spikes after cranking and just as it starts, there you are.

Hello....I too am having this issue. Mine continued for the past year off and on and now it finally came to a head. The Jeep would take forever to turnover, when it finally would start, it would idle extremely rough. Acting like it wanted to die out. Finally got it into the Jeep dealership. They tell me I need to replace spark plugs and pay for a tune up ($700 out of pocket, not warranty).

Have you found a fix?? My Jeep is still at dealership since I think there is something more.

thanks

Hi,
I still have not found what is my problem.
I'm experiencing about 1,5 month without this problem.
Rarely, in the morning, a like something being smashed noise happens, but car works fine.
I did not make any change, neither spark plug changed.

Hi,

I've a GC 2011 and I've got a problem that might be in the same ball park. If the car is 100 % cold, no problem starting whatsoever, at minus 20 or 0 celsius, you push the start button and its crank & start. However, I found that if the car is semi-warm (like driving it for 20 minutes then parking it for 1:30hr at -10 celsius) the problem might arise (yes it also random!) :

I push the start buttton, its fail immediately, I retry after 2 secondes and then the starter work (its cranking( but its start very painfully and the motor get it speed slowly then its ok. (I tried to give gaz and it help and start way faster)

If its 80%-100% warm (the engine) its start with no problem at all.

Also few days ago, I did drive for an hour, than park for 4 hours (it was 0 degree outside) and when I try to start it, it did the problem again.... Something there is only the second step problem, its start but having trouble to start. There is no check engine light.

I when to the dealer 2 times. First time they cleaned the body throttle, cleaned the injector, checked for code, found nothing and reprogrammed the computer. In between at A friend have OBDII scanner and we found a P0128 code (Coolant temp, below thermostat regulating temp) I when back to the Jeep dealer with that information but the Chrysler computer didnt found anything... so mechanic told me to change the thermostat (based on the code information p0128), at least we'll go forward with the trouble shooting... Is it related or not I dont know but let's see what happen... So far it did it again , so back to square one of the investigation.

So, it's happen only when its half-warm and its also random. The trouble just started when its became cooler outside (I live in Quebec...)

Any thoughts?

Todays cars are a bit complex to diagnose based on a verbal description on the internet. But I have always believed in starting with something simple.

If you haven't done so yet, throw a couple of cans if injector cleaner in the tank. My preference is Chevron Techron, but I'm sure there are other good ones. Just don't go cheap.

I have the same problem on my 2011 GC, the dealer said it was some TPMI module and said it would be 600 dollars to fix. They found a TSB that said to flash new software , but the problem persisted, what I'm doing is press the ignition twice so all the accessories come on and wait two seconds then press the brake and try to start, this has worked so far and I get to save 600 bucks, good luck guys

I've got the same problem. Had it into the dealer and independent mechanic and no one has figured it out yet. My 2011 idles rough as well.

Hi everyone,

Here's a followup! Believe it or not, it's regular gas the problem with the winter additif! If I use premium, zéro problem, the Grand start every time. Chrysler know about it and working on it. It happend in Québec region with Ultramar special winter gas.

So till the fix the computer with an upgrade, my truck is a diva and work with premium gas only but at least the problem is found.
