So, skid plates.
I may or may not be getting a package that includes skid plates, even though I don't need them. Out of curiosity, what sort of maintenance do they require, if any? Does a lot of dirt and stuff get trapped up in there? I should mention I live in the northeast, so while we don't get major amounts of snow, the roads are usually salted throughout the winter (I'm wondering if the skid plates would trap salt deposits up there.)

Based on this comment I'll probably at the very least be getting a front axle skid plate.

Unless you install them yourself, it is more cost effective to get the package. Trust me, I know!. I did not install mine myself!

I lived on Long Island and had a number of vehicle with skid plates. Never gave those vehicles any extra attention because of them. I did a lot of driving on ocean beaches and occasional off roading upstate.

If you plan on staying on the road, a Jeep has no more need for skid plates than any other vehicle on the road.
