The recirculation door itself is just sitting above the blower motor. The blower motor can be accessed via the passengers footwell (3 screws and 1 connector).
The recirculation door actuator is mounted on the outside of the HVAC housing, but the service manual says to remove the whole dash. I wonder if its not possible to just remove the center instrument panel to get access to the actuator. Maybe someone who changed it can tell.
Attached a picture of the HVAC housing. On the right hand side you can see the blower motor impeller through the screen and the recirculation door just above it. the actuator is visible on the left hand side of the housing where the recirculation door hinges.

Re: recirculation door motor
with the glove box out of the way, i look under the dash to what I thought was the reirculation door. it's behind a plastic grid, right? so when I turn the recirculation switch off and on, the door moves accordingly. so i guess the recirc door is working...and the motor working so the code must've been a fluke. still don't understand tho why i am getting cold air and not heat from the passenger side vents. the blend door is broken, but stuck in the up position so it should be hot air all the time. this confuses me.
