NEW 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4X4 Bright Silver Paint Problems

I purchased my Jeep 6 weeks ago, after a couple of weeks I noticed problems with the paint on the passenger rear and front door and front fender. Splotchy, cloudy areas. The dealership has it and wants to repaint the 2 doors and fender. Which I am furious about the thought of my brand new Jeep being repainted. I contacted Chrysler about the paint problem and wanted to meet with a factory rep at the dealership to look at the Jeep, I was assigned a case manager that was no help and told me to go back to the dealership and write a letter. Anyone aware of paint problems?

Thanks

What exactly do you want them to do? Give you a new Jeep? Paint the entire thing? They've already agreed to paint the defective panels. Not sure why you need to write a letter or meet with a factory rep or have a case manager.

iirc there's a TSB for it, but not a re-paint - the dealer will make it worse if they paint it.

my mineral grey has the same problem on the hood, i really don't care as it's not that bad unless you stare at it for awhile.

got pics?

Please tell me more:

I do not have pictures, I have tried taking some, does not show.

Thank you

I agree with the OP a repaint would not be acceptable to me. He bought a new vehicle and he should get a new vehicle with acceptable paint. They should offer a replacement of similar features.

Was this an issue when you took delivery of the vehicle or didn't you notice? It's not the dealers fault if you took delivery of it and you just now found it. They are trying to fix the issue. Unless this is really bad and all over, I don't see why they should give him a different vehicle. If the TSB addresses this issue and they fix it as stated, what more do you want.

I agree I would be pissed but it would be my fault if I didn't notice it when I got it.

My blochiness has gotten less pronounced as the paint has aged (mineral grey - 13 months old). I would leave it alone, do not repaint as the result might be less favorable than the current concerns. Much of my issue was on the front of the hood, and installation of a clear 3M bra covered and hid most of the issue (which appears to be in the metallic base and changes depending upon how clean and shiney your GC is, and the lighting conditions).

After a good wash and wax, I noticed four areas where the black metallic paint has the looks of rock chips down to the primer. These are in areas where rocks don't hit. I looked closer at the paint job and noticed a raised dirt-like blemish underneath the paint in other areas, that makes me suspect that it is the real problem. I am worried that it is only going to get worse over time and chips shows up quickly on black. There is also a couple of blemishes under the clear coat that look like orange peel. What would you do since this is a 6 week old Jeep, take it to the dealer and make note of it or just buy some touch-up paint and hope it does not turn into several spotted fixes overtime? My last three new Jeeps never had this problem but again they were silver and winter chill lighter colors so not as easy to notice during the first few years. I am still happy for as the motor, transmission and suspension are working normal.

I agree here, leave it alone, some paint colors do not flow evenly when sprayed.. so you see some differences in color ,,metallic paint is like this.
