Yakima Railgrab Tower and Crossbar

3 Attachment(s)
Just put on a new set of Yakima crossbars with Railgrab towers. Got everything from Amazon for about $350 including towers, 48in crossbars, core locks, & Powderhound ski attachment. I didn't think endcaps for the crossbars came with the towers, so I ordered those separately. However, when the towers were delivered, a set of four endcaps were included. So, now I have extras just in case.

I was initially concerned when attaching the towers to the flush rails. The feet don't rest on the roof. Both the claw and the foot were set on the black trim beneath the silver rail. It won't look like its attached securely when you tighten the claw. As you tighten the claw, the foot of the tower will ride up the rail.

It's actually on pretty solid. I was rocking the whole Jeep with some good pushes and tugs on the crossbar. Will keep checking throughout the season if anything comes loose.

Pictures of the setup are attached.

Looks great. Can you post up some part numbers on the setup? Thanks!

Sorry, I threw out most of the paperwork. Don't have the part numbers...just have the model names. "Railgrab" & "Powderhound". The 48 in bars fit fine, but if you want a little more extension beyond the towers would recommend the 58 in bars.

I just saw this post, and I have the same set up. I believe you have the wrong part because your towers are sitting way too high; I went through this same deal. Yakima will send out free replacement parts.

Here is a before picture on mine:

And here it is after ordering the correct part:

You should call Yakima and ask for the "small claw base" part number 8880201; they sent me mine at no charge.

Yep, x2. You will end up on the last two or three teeth in the small claw, but it will sit lower and be more stable.

When I ordered the towers, it came with 3 different size claws. I'm using the smallest set. is there a smaller one? if not, I'll check if the ones I have can be adjusted lower. thanks for the feedback.

I can see that I can move the claw up a couple of teeth. Your set up looks more secure. I'll try your way to mount next time.

You need a grand Cherokee specific part. Call Yakima and they'll send them out for free.

Thanks for posting this. Scratching my head this morning looking at the way the RailGrab wasn't making good contact riding above Jeep's rails. Had vague memory of something about this on Jeep garage a while back and searched and found this thread again. Have contacted Yakima about the special part.

mceb,

I would be greatful If you could post the exact part #'s for the grab rails to fit on the 2014. Also how hard is it to take the grab rail and cross bars off? On my 2005 I just left the stock croos bars on with the ski rack. This time around I think I would like to take them on and off. Since I use the ski rack for fishing poles this will means on and off a few times a week in fishing season. ( which is 10 month out of the year.) Looking at this post, I think I like these cross bars way better than the Mopar/ tule.

Yakima support came back with same part number other person listed earlier 8880201. Support called it a "pin adapter". Said to call Monday to Friday call at 888.925.4621 between 7:00a and 5:00p Pacific Time and they will send adapter for free.

I won't know about the easy on easy off aspect for another week but I plan on doing same thing as you taking rack on and off. I was told by my online retailer (ORS direct) that the RailGrab is easier to get on and off than Thule so fingers crossed. It does appear easier from what I can see and have read elsewhere. Also I a lot of car washes won't let you in with racks on roof.

I too like how the Yakima looked, nice low profile tower. I'll post pictures when I get whole thing squared away.
