Dragging Noise coming from rear end
Hello Jeepers

I am now ready to tackle my next jeep problem. The great advice from this forum has already fixed 3 problems on my newly acquired 1999 Limited 4.7

I have a noise coming from the rear end area that sounds like a brake dragging on a warped rotar.

But took everything apart and checked pads, rotars, bearings for play and grease and E brakes. All are good.

Checked rear end fluid, it looks good. I have not had the pumpkin cover off.

Wanted to get input here first before going that route to see if there were any common problems to look for???

Re: Dragging Noise coming from rear end
Unless you know the exact maintenance history, you better do a full tune up wit all fluids and filters. Noises can be very hard to solve. Is the noise speed related? Is it always there, or when accelerating/decelerating? Could be a problem inside diff, but also the propeller shaft U-joint or wheel bearing. Also the drive train can propagate noises so it sounds that it comes from an other place then it really does.

Wheel bearings seem fine, there is some slight play in the u joints so I have already bought those and will replace this upcoming week end.

Will post a status update after the parts change.

Make sure the splash shields aren't bent against the rotor and also that spring wire thing on the caliper isn't rubbing the rotor hat.
