Thinking of Buying a 2012 Overland Hemi

I am thinking of buying a 2012 Overland Hemi and would like to know if there are any known issues with this model/year. A local dealer has one on the lot that they are selling as new even though it has about 7500 miles on the odometer. I have never owned a Jeep before, although I have driven a few of the older Cherokees. The other possibility is a V6 2013 Limited. I have read about the head issues with the V6 but really do not understand if they have been solved or not. I haven't found any known problems on the Hemi, but I may not have looked hard enough. Whichever I purchase, I plan to buy an extended warranty to ease my mind.

So are there any known issues with the 2012 Hemi? Or the V6 other than the head problem?

Thanks for your assistance.

your dealer is ripping you off trying to pass off a used jeep with that many miles as new...i would pass.

as for issues, just search around - but for myself i am overall happy with it. just minor little stuff and i'm far from OCD either.

I purchased a 2012 Overland (Demo) with 7300 miles on it. Make sure they take off an additional $3000-$4000 for the Demo over the OTD for a new with 0 miles. The last post said they are trying to rip you off, not the case. Most dealers will move ALOT on the price. Example: we paid $37000 + TTL and the sticker was $46015. Just my 2 cents.:slapfight:

The one I am looking at is a Demo as well. As long as the price is right (which it isn't just yet) and the in service date is my purchase date, I don't think they are trying to rip me off. I just wish I could be assured that the Hemi gets the 20 mpg on the highway that EPA rates it. It seems as though they may not get that, although much depends on the way it is driven.

IME, if you otherwise like the color combo and other configuration, get the Overland Hemi. You'll appreciate both the power balance in the mountains, as well as the Overland upgrades.

The Hemi can reach beyond 20 mpg on flat highway cruises at moderate speeds so long as you aren't towing or have a kayak, two bikes, and skiis on the roof rack. A search here will show you these thresholds achieved.

Negotiate a great deal on the demo, then to close ask 'em to throw in slush & cargo mats, tow hooks, extended Chryco warrantee, and some oil changes.

Merry Christmas and enjoy.

I have 19000 miles on my 2012 hemi and average 20.8 mpg on the highway at 70mph. I love it. I haven't had any problems. This is my second 2012 hemi. My first was a demo with with 7000 miles on it. I traded it in with 17500 miles not because of any problems, but it was silver and I loved the meteor grey and the dealer made me an offer I couldn't refuse. My combined city/highway is 18 mpg. City is around 16 mpg.

My Hemi Summit averages north of 20mpg on the highway...including today over about 400 miles with "winter" fuel. I got close to 22mpg round trip to/from central Florida in early Sept.

{update - trip average for the 950 miles was 21.2 calculated; EVIC was at 21.4}

The test drive fell though on the V8. I am now looking to rent a V6 but am having trouble as Alamo is only one rental car company in the area that has JGC ,and they don't know when they will have them available. I am going to try to talk to the local Alamo manager and see if he can do something to accommodate me. Hopefully it will be next week.

No dealer has one that you can test drive?

One of the main reasons I want a new car is for more comfortable long distance driving than the Subaru Outback that I currently drive. I find it hard to get a feel for what a car will be like after 6-8 hours behind the wheel from a 15-30 minute test drive. I test drove a V6 and a V8, but I will feel more comfortable dropping $35-45k on a car if I have a 6 hour extended drive.

I completely understand that statement. You just stated before that the test drive of the V8 fell through and you couldn't get a rental at all, but maybe you were trying to get a V8 for the weekend and I didn't get that. If you haven't tried that with the dealer, give it a shot.
