Door Speaker Harness
I'm getting ready to swap out my door speakers. I'm going to keep it simple and just swap them out with Polk Audio DB651s speakers. I've read a bunhc of "speaker" threads but I can't find the info I am looking for.

These speakers are 6.5" round. Will I need a spacer/adapter for the front doors?

I don't want to cut any wires so can someone recommend speaker wire "adapters". A manufacturer and part number would be very helpful.
Thanks for any help.

Any additional tips, tricks or information about doing the swap would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Door Speaker Harness
Look at, they carry good quality stuff and even throw in the spacer and speaker harness for free. Give them a look!

Putting a full-range coax in the front doors is somewhat of a waste. The OE signal is not full-range (assuming you have the Alpine system?).

You can easily make your own 6.5 --> 6x9 adaptor plates with cheap cutting boards, or thin MDF. I prefer not to use wood due to moisture in doors. Or, you can buy them. You can buy the speaker harness, or use splices/taps (w/o cutting the OE plug).

I have this pack, and have been using them throughout my new Ram (same crappy Alpine system as my Jeep):

50 Pack Quick Wire Splices

They work perfect.

Do the base radio system get the full range (no amp)?

Re: Door Speaker Harness
I probably should have laid out the parameters before asking questions. lol
I had a RES 130 stock radio with Sirius and the six speaker system. I upgraded the head unit to a 430n rhb with Nav.

So, if I am understanding this right, the front door speakers are "component" speakers? if that's the case should I replace the door speakers and the tweeters with something like the Polk DXI6500's speakers and use regular full range speakers for the back doors?

Thanks for the tip about the quick wire splice's. I have used them in th epast but I prefer to use the little pigtail harness to connect the factory wiring to an aftermarket speaker.

Once again thanks for the input. I love this site and the reams of information that can be found on it.
Take care,

Re: Door Speaker Harness
Damn that 50 pack is cheap! I think I got 2 pieces for the same amount at Ace Hardware :(

bpd138, I had the same radio as you did and I was following another guy's upgrade on the jeepforum site. He used kicker speakers for his upgrade, speakers that were specifically made for mopar if I understand it correctly. This means no splicing. I actually have 2 sets of speakers in my shopping cart at Amazon.

BPD138- where did you buy your 430n all I can find if units costing 1200? I'm wanting the garmin nav and I know kenwood units have that but I'd like to have the factory look.

Re: Door Speaker Harness
Hi Chase361,
I bought my 430n on Ebay for $520.00 shipped. The ones for Grand Cherokee's, with the mounting tabs top and bottom don't show up quite as often as the other models but they do get listed from time to time. The best way to get a deal on them is to seach Ebay for them using a bunch of different search criteria's so that you get to see everything. Save each search you do. Then, after doing the first "extensive" search use your saved searches but change the search setting to just show newly listed units. This way, hopefully you will see the newly listed stuff that no one else has seen. I know it seems like a lot of work but if you are patient you will find one at a decent price. Don't forget the 2011, 2012 and 2013 Dodge Durangos are the same units as the Jeeps so when you search make sure you include them in your search.
I hope this helps.
Take care,
