Need a change...
So i've been getting a little bored of my black on black look... don't get me wrong, I like it.. but I'm getting a little tired of it..
I want to do something different to set it apart a little more.. I really would like to make it more rugged but I dont have a lot of cash to invest at this point in time...

I thought about maybe dipping the wheels to a dark gunmetal grey as opposed to the black? other than more expensive upgrades like bumpers and rockers and new wheels.. i really cant think of anything I can do to make my WK a little more rugged looking... can you guys/gals please give me some suggestions to look into? or maybe even just comment on thoughts of going to gunmetal dipped wheels? I cant throw a pic up right now.. but you can sort of see my WKs look in the avatar... also if you check october's JOTM submission, I have a photo in there...

I would really appreciate the ideas. thanks everyone!

Re: Need a change...
ye, im not big of the total black on black look, still looks BA on Jeeps! Reason why i kept some chrome and some green accents to break it up.

For the gunmetal wheels, i think itll look great, sets it apart from the black paint. Hopefully some of the offroad guys can chime in on some inexpensive mods.

What about..

ORT stripes Coop got(maybe in gunmetal?!), and a bullbar like this (ricowk)

Re: Need a change...
thanks for the suggestions Davy!

yea.. I actually have and ORT stripe its in matte black..

Im thinking of PDing the wheels grey for now just to set it apart and break up that black.. then painting the "grandcherokee" letters in my door molding a similiar medium gray..
I've always loved the way the matrix with the hoop looks like Coop and MtBrunner run, but its pricey... so maybe in the future.

3 questions for you though, I'm a little colorblind and I'd like the grey on the wheels to be more grey than grey/black.. like the competition grey reps.. frist question.. plast dip makes a gunmetal grey and a smoke.. what would be better? i think the smoke bc its a lighter grey but again, my crazy eyes dont help.. 2. do you think i could lay the grey over top the black PD or I would probably have to peel the black first? and 3. I know you had your door moldings sent out for your snakeskin... but if i wanted to just paint in the letters on my own, what type of paint would i want to use??

Re: Need a change...
Hmm, i think the Gunmetal grey a better fit. I glanced over the smoke, and it said Plasti Dip Smoke's color changes gradually as more coats are added, lighter coats-grey and as more coats=black. I would worry about getting each wheels the same amount of coats which would affect the color. Im no expert on PD, just thinking it'll be hard to match all 4 wheels evenly.

Ill peel the black PD off. Do it right the first time

automotivetouchup got 1/2 oz touchup paint for $10ish/
or pretty much any touchup paint w/brush will work.

Re: Need a change...
thanks... i guess maybe ill go gunmetal then and do it lightly so its not too dark.. and then try to find a grey touchup paint to match for my letters. excited for the change.. may wait until a warmer month though.. get her all nice n new for the the spring. i'll probably contact nate and get a new ORT stripe and JG banner sticker in grey to replace the matte black ones. thanks for the help. I'm pretty pumped for this new look. maybe it will even spark a name for my nameless WK.

Re: Need a change...
I could always come over and airbrush some rivets on the bodywork

I did my old wheels a gun metal ish grey, as I felt the black with stock rims wasn't quite right.

I liked the look. It was different but subtle.

Re: Need a change...
Ah heck, gun metal grey? That's just being safe. I say you plasti dip those wheels Blazing Orange! And then coat it with some shinny Glossifier.

Re: Need a change...
bob, in a way.. i like the idea...but at the same time i hate it. lol and the glossifier has tempted me on a few occassions... maybe something other than blaze orange though?

i always love the combo of a military green with gunmetal or black.. only thing is, I think doing it vice versa and coloring wheels on the black WK may be too over the top.. im not looking for anything too flashy.

Re: Need a change...
im kinda digging the camo green... you guys think thats too crazy?!

so we'd be talking black WK.. with camo green wheels, camo green ORT stripe and JG banner (if possible), and camo green "grand cherokee" molding letters..

Re: Need a change...
Well if you are gonna go the para military route... The stock steel wheels for the xk and wk's have a utilitarian almost hummer like look. At a salvage yard you should be able to find some cheap as spares of salvaged jeeps. A full set of those done in camo along with some other camo accents and you've got an all new look...

This is why forums are fun... Mixing everyone's crazy ideas until....

Re: Need a change...
agreed bob. the forums are always a good way to mix ideas and see some new stuff. junkyard may be a good route.. i dont wanna get too pricey with the changes

I dig idea with the camo details. Go for it!
