Most power for the dollar

So, with bigger tires on the way, I'm going to need more power to get em turning. The problem is, I don't know what I want performance wise. I'm only doing one mod right now so it's going to be one or the other. Not, get this whole setup and call it a day.

So here's my ideas

Diablo Intune
Muffler (need suggestions)
CAI
Throttle body
Cat-back

I'm not trying to break bank on this one, simply because it's just not in my budget.

Any input and thoughts are much appreciated. Thanks in advance

I would say Intune, love mine! Despite the gains of the tune you will be able to adjust correct tire size so your odo is correct, have a tow tune incase thats needed, disable TPMS for wheeling and the limits are endless. CAI are minimal although they sound nice, i have the k&n 63, an exhaust is minimal as well and same with TB. Now when you combine everything like I have each work together to make some gains but again all very minimal to the tuner

I second the tuner. Especially since you're going to need to re-calibrate your speedometer for the bigger tires. Might as well get the gained HP/better shift points with it.

If I had to choose TWO...I'd get the tuner and exhaust. Just because I love a good exhaust sound.

I have a good calibration setup for an '05 5.7 with those exact mods.

Re: Most power for the dollar

The best advice is from those that have actually tried the mods and done thorough comparisons. I would not recommend CAI or exhaust as they are a waste of money, plus the WK drives worse than stock as it loses low end and throttle response. I got rid of my Magnaflow and CAI and am back to stock intake and exhaust, and it drives much better. The MM CNC ported 85 MM TB is a far better investment than wasting money on those noisemakers. Gains are noticable from low RPM to high where there are increases in torque and HP, with no downsides. Ive just ordered a Diablsoport with custom tuning yesterday so can't yet comment on that.

The first thing to get is a Billet tech Catch Can for any Hemi. Not only keeps the intake and TB clean, it will run and perform better. The residual long chain hydrocarbons from the crankcase that are fed into the combustion chamber though the stock PCV system effectively reduce octane number, and timing is pulled by the ECU to compensate. With the CC installed, timing is not pulled.

not to thread jack here, but since you guys are knowledgable performace wise.. tuner the best thing for a 4.7 as well? and other than that.. anything else to help.. does a ported TB help with a 4.7 much? i dont wanan spend unneccesary money on CAI and exhaust setup. i have the newer 08 4.7, fyi.

Re: Most power for the dollar

I just got an intune a few days ago, and super easy to use, touchscreen, about 1/2 the size of a cell phone. The canned tunes are 93, 91, 87, along with TCM tuning, and has great data logging functions. I drove it 1 day, then got a CMR update tune from a vendor who is not on this site, and it really hauls. Datalogging today and will send him the files for further dialing in. With the ported TB and Apexi, that is all want now, fast, AND quiet, and with better mpg.

Re: Most power for the dollar

I started with all the bolt ons and diablo tuner and it improved my stock 0 to 60 time from about 6.8-9 to 5.7-8; however, my biggest power gains from heads$$, headers$$, cam$$ and a dyno tune$$(64rwhp); However, if you don't want to spend the big bucks then bolt ons and a tuner are the way to go. And if you don't plan to mod pass the bolt ons, then I would definitely recommend a professional tune to coincide with all your bolt ons. Theirs a few professional tuners on here.

Yea, 100th post!!

Re: Most power for the dollar

Finally made a decision on what I wanted to go with. I went with the inTune for the horsepower and the ability to recallibrate my speedometer.

I had a few big issuses when installing the tune the first time. After installing, it idled hard, had no throttle response whatsoever, took forever to get out of first gear, I had no cruise, and threw codes like I've never seen before.

After getting on the Diablo forums, I found that the battery needs to be disconnected in some vehicles after and original tune and then retuned. Once I did this, everything was responsive, crisp smooth shifts, and fast! I can't comment on milage yet, but I probably won't be able to because I can't keep my foot of the gas. I highly recommend this for anyone trying to add power without making some obnoxious noise. It makes the Jeep a silent speedster
