265/60R18 and 2.5" RRO lift? Anxious about changes...

So you know the kid's story "If you give a mouse a cookie"? (if you give a mouse a cookie, he'll ask for a glass of milk, if you give him a glass of milk, he'll want... and it snowballs from there) I've run into that with my Jeep. I wanted to get the rock rails from RRO (the supersliders) but then I realized I would lose a bit of clearance, so shouldn't I get the RRO 2.5" lift too? But then if I get the lift, the current 265/60R18 tires would look strange.

Or would they?

I went to my local discount tire, the guys at the one by me are pretty nice, they lifted by vehicle up the 2.5inchs to let me visualize what it would look like. So I sort of have a mental image of what the stock tire size would look like.

I discussed with my service guy at the dealer who actually is usually quite helpful. They even install lift kits and the such there. He initally said going up a small bit on the tire shouldnt matter that much, that there wasnt a way yet to change the settings of things (speedometer and such) but it shouldnt cause any problems but he would discuss with the guys that do their lifts and handle their modifications. After talking with them, he said their guys actually dont recommend going up much in the size/OD of the tire since they have found it may be causing some adverse effects on the traction control and ABS systems.

Well now I'm anxious about that, after all about 90% of my driving is in town and that is where those things are important.

Anyone have pics of their WK2 with the RRO 2.5" on and 265/60R18s?

Anyone have guidance? Suggestions?

signed, not going rock crawling but would like a little extra clearance when going rock collecting/enjoying the mountain weekends !

I actually got my RRO 2.5 kit installed today, and I have the original 18 that came with it. It doesn't look bad at all, even though I'm going to change the rims and tire pretty soon.

Thanks for the response! If you could, would you take some photos before you change out the tires and wheels?

Very grateful!

And of course, always post your after photos so we can see how great the Jeep looks!

Here's a pic of a former member with I believe stock 20's. same overall diameter as the 18's.

I have the RRO lift and am running 33" Duratracs. Havent had any major issues yet. Before I put on the Duratracs I was running the stock tires with the 17" rims and personally I thought it looked a little strange in the front but I didnt wait too long before going up in size.

I think a lift with the OE Latitudes would look silly. If you have replaced the Latitudes with an AT tire, it would be OK. I do not think you need the rock sliders, nor lift if you don't plan to go off road. You might want to read the "warranty BS" thread. But, to each their own...

Thanks for your advice!

I do plan on being offroad more, just didnt have a chance this last summer since the Air Force had other plans for my free time this year. Normally weekends are filled with trips up into the mountains for rock collecting, hiking, geocaching, etc. Thought the sliders would be wise since I did come down a twice with a bit of scraping, enough that made me raise an eyebrow and made my friends wince. Was going to get the supersliders from RRO because trying to load my kayaks up on top means I have to get the step ladder out and its a pain to have to take a step ladder with you when you have a bunch of other gear. And standing in the open door doesnt work either;it just isnt comfortable and puts you in the wrong place for the lashing straps.

As for the tire issue, heavens I'll admit the OE Latitudes are just plain silly. I've seen those threads and even had that discussion with the dealer before even seeing that thread. Never intended to keep the OE tires this long, and wouldnt have if I'd had more than a few minutes of free time or if I had time to go rock collecting or hiking in some more choice places. My last Jeep, a WK, had Hankook Dynapro ATMs and I loved those tires. They handled wonderfully in the sand and snow, they had less road noise than the tires on my husband's Infiniti and they looked wonderful on my Jeep. I plan on going to those ASAP- the only thing holding me back is what size.. Thats the do I go up in size or not dilemma I'm having...

I was following that post and some of his other mods. Shame about having to get rid of it, hopefully the job situation improves.

I know alot seem to think that the larger tires look best, and I admit they usually are right; but I think without the OE tires of those silly Latitudes, instead with nicer tires like the Hankook Dynapro ATM or the Wrangler SAs it wouldnt look that bad. Though everyone has different views, like the chrome vs dechromed people.
