Poor deer, poor Jeep, poor air suspension module some nitwit put in the bumper

Well, I was out enjoying the sound of my new Corsa exhaust when a deer jumped in front me. I was not going very fast and managed to slow down pretty good and swerve, but the deer did not cooperate and bounced off the front passenger side bumper anyway.

I didn't see what happened to the deer after that, but I can't imagine it was very happy.

It was a pretty mild impact as these things go, but it was enough to shatter that side of the bumper cover and some other plastic crap in there (it was about 10F out). It was dark and cold and I didn't see anything obviously wrong, so I got back on the road. I was only about 5 minutes from home.

Within about a mile I got a message that said "Service Air Suspension Immediately", or something to that effect. Before I had very much time to ponder just what "immediately" meant, I hit a small bump and practically bounced off the road. I realized the air suspension had deflated down to the bump stops and so pulled over again.

Upon further inspection, I noticed there is some kind of module for the air suspension right behind the bumper on the front passenger side. A plastic connector attaching some kind of hose to it had snapped in half and broken off. I assume this was some kind of air line.

I called my insurance company and they recommended I just leave it there until morning so I can have it towed directly to a body shop.

What's very frustrating about this (aside from hitting the deer in the first place) is that it was really a mild impact and the car was perfectly driveable. If that air suspension module had been better protected I would've been able to just drive it home.

I'll bet the deer is posting on another forum that it was the Jeep that didn't cooperate. :)

At least you weren't hurt, and hopefully you and your Jeep will be reunited soon.

Downside to technology - more stuff to break. With coil springs all would probably have been well. However, then you miss out on all the good that the air ride offers. Decisions decisions. I'm still undecided myself.

I agree, at least you weren't hurt. This is what happened to me when I tried to avoid hitting the deer.

The police officer was writing a ticket for yielding to a deer that was crossing.

The trick question for a Colorado driver's license is; should you swerve to avoid hitting an animal. The answer is no.

Never swerve to avoid the critter. Aim for it's butt, as that shouldn't be there when you get there. A free tip from the Maine Fish & Wildlife Wardens.

Nah, I was only kidding. I think he was checking my license and stuff though.

Before I was driven away with my broken Jeep the highway patrol asked me "next time you encounter a deer what are you going to do?" I said "hit the damn thing!" He said "that's right!"

Always carry a handgun in the car to finish it off, along with a knife to gut it so you can carry it home for many good dinners.
