Valve stems all snapped.

I went to put air in my tires the other day and realize all the valve stems snapped, like the treaded parts were all broken about a quarter inch down. Luckly I could still put air in them and they seem to be held on by the valve pin assembly inside but it did give me a scare when the one jammed and stearted leaking all the air out. I guess I need some new TPMS valves, hopefully they will hold out till I can get new tires.

What type of stem caps did you have on those sensors? the plastic ones or some type of metal cap?

What do you mean when you say react...? In what way, I guess is what I mean.

Re: Valve stems all snapped.

some people say you can put some sort of grease or lubricant to keep two different metals from reacting

Here's a link that describes potential issues with aftermarket stem caps.

There as several others out there (google for info) that mention the same problem. I had this happen on one of my TPMS valves on the Corvette a few years back. Removed the aftermarket caps and went back with the OEM plastics.

What you need to stop this corrosion is Duralec

http://www.intek-uk.com/duralac.htm

Picked this tip up from the boating commumity and have used it on motorcycles over the years with great success. Bikes tend to have lots of alloy held together with steel bolts, therefore lots of this type of corrosion

I run metal valve caps (already got the ones with Jeep embossed) and always use this compound on them
