High temp & smell of transmission oil
Have a new grand cherokee limited 3lt diesel mv
Have done 3,000kms
Hooked up the 3 ton caravan and away we went

All good untill we got to the range at Cunningham gap qld
As we climed the mountain smelt stong smell hydriculic or transmission oil, and tge temputure guage went to 105 c
No warnng displays

Once at the top temp came dn as we drove but climed to high 90's every time we ncounted a slight grade in the road
But a little concerned as to temp and smell of oil

Is this normal or is there an issue
My patrol of 1o year 3lt diesel temp never rose climbing the mountains

Obviously i will go to thevdealers on my return to check it out but long way to travell yet

Re: High temp & smell of transmission oil
Should not be normal to have a strong transmission fluid smell. Did you check for any leaks, or was it maybe coming out of the tranny vent line?

Re: High temp & smell of transmission oil
On reading and re reading the manual it appears that running about or just above half way is normal and nothing to worry about.

Re: High temp & smell of transmission oil
Spoke with my mechanic this morning

He said 105c is not an issue due to the coolant and the system being in presure

Happy with his explanation
