ZJ T-case swap
Hey guys, I have been wanting to do a t-case swap. I have a 95 Grand Cherokee Limited with 5.2L V8 and a quadra drive and i want to swap to a Select Track t-case because i like that one more. Can I do a direct swap or do I have to do some modeifications to it? My current t-case is leaking and I have been advised to do a rebuild since it is simple to do. So can I buy a select Track t-case off of junk yard, rebuild it and put in my Jeep?

Re: ZJ T-case swap
Look for a 93-95 242, 96 up used a different output shaft to the t-case,but if your gonna rebuild it you can always change the input shaft on the t-case. By far one of the best swaps I ever did in my 98, you don't really gain anything other than having a 2wd option and you get rid of the quadra-trac chatter

Re: ZJ T-case swap
You need a 242 HD from a v8 ZJ and the rear drive shaft from the donor also for the easiest swap.

Not true...mine came out of a 96 with a 4.0.....v-8's never came with a selec-trac case....well they did but extremely rare bit yeah you need the rear shaft too

Grab the rear driveshaft out of whatever you pull the t-case will need it

Re: ZJ T-case swap
Any T-case with the speedo gear input will work for the swap. Big deal is getting the input shaft on the 231/242 to be the same length as the 249 you're pulling. Years of t-cases only matters if you're swapping the input from your 249 to the 231/242 because of gear cut/bearing shoulder ('94.5 year change). Early 231/242 (90's and earlier) also come with a 21 spline input, instead of the 23 spline that all '91 up 231/242/249 come with. I'm running a '98 t-case now, which is nice because if I do lose the rear driveshaft, I won't lose fluid like the '96(?) and earlier t-cases. & are also great resources to SEARCH & find some detailed info.
