Leaking Rear Shock
Just thought I would share my experience with everyone so you can keep an eye out for the same on your vehicles...
My Jeep: 2011 Grand Cherokee, Overland Summit, 4x4, Hemi, QUADRA-TRAC II with select terrain, bought brand new in 2011, less than 20K miles on the OD.
I park in my garage every time I drive my Jeep, so this is not something that I would have normally seen. Over the weekend, I was stopping by the house to pick up something and left the Jeep in the driveway. When I walked through the garage, I saw suspect wet spots in the back of the garage, right beside the spot where the left rear tire sits (I back into the garage). When I bent down to check the spots, I noticed an oily feel and immediately went to check under my vehicle. Sure enough, I found the left rear shock soaked, and a tiny bead of fluid built up on the nut where it's bolted in the rear (picture attached and you can see how coated with oil the shock is). I have no idea how long it has been leaking, or how much longer it would have been until I discovered it if I hadn't of parked in the driveway and walked through the garage. It is not in a spot that is readily visible, unless the car is not there (and I'm always in it if it's not there...). Called the dealer this morning and will be taking it down tomorrow for them to look at.
Just something to keep an eye on if you park in your garage like I do...
Re: Leaking Rear Shock
Just got it back from the dealer this morning. The left rear shock was in fact completely blown. They've replaced the shock and checked the others to make sure they were alright, which they were.
Can't say I'm happy with the situation, but at least the dealer came through with the repairs quickly and without a hassle.
