Mopar Rock Rails

1 Attachment(s)
I am having mine installed at a dealership. But am having problems.

They are insisiting that no bolts go alone the top of the rock rails where the rails meet the body just under the doors.

They are saying the holes that are exposed after they installed the rails is on purpose!!!! They even tried to cap the with plastic rivits!!!! There's even a nice 1/4 inch gap between boy and rails!

WTF...

Attached is a pic.

This seems completely idiotic.

I have looked at the instructions and they clearly state to...

"install all 12 M8 flange nuts onto all 12 cap screws until hand tight."

Later it says to tighten them to the specs they provide...

I think i have an incredibly lazy tech.

I would love to show them pics of what other have had installed as evidence to their nonsense.

If anyone with mopar rock rails has a moment...coudl you take a picture of the rails with your doors open so that i can show them the nuts and bolts that are meant to go where the sill used to be?

Thank you!!!!

I don't have them but there was an install thread I took that picture from.

That's great! Thank you! Anyone else have any? I'd love to have a few more.

Thanks!

You MUST have those bolts installed but I'm guessing you figured that out by now. They didn't want to do it because it is a PITA and takes a lot of time!

My dealer used a plastic rivet on the 6th hole for these, bolts on the rest...not sure why.

Is the rivet actually connecting two parts or is it for decoration?

I've heard of some missing parts, so maybe they tried to jerry-rig it? Or were too lazy to align the holes so they added a decoration rivet. Either way it needs to be a bolt and nut for strength.

For what it's worth, my dealer said if they installed the rails, the rails and work is warrantied. I think with Jeep, but don't quote me, it might have just been with the dealer. A plastic rivet is piss poor labor for a warrantied product.

I called the dealer and told them and they told me they followed instructions as given. I told them I was worried about it breaking they said it shouldn't and I can reach out if anything ever gives me issues. A few guys on the forum said should not be a structural issue with rivet. It looks like it is holding pieces, and I believe the 6th hole is the only rouns hole others were square. I also noticed another forum member had rock rails put in and in his photos the 6th hole also has a rivet.

Just curious....what can be done to fix it if I wanted to? Is there a way to put a bolt without taking rail off?

Wow, this looks to be really hard to do. No wonder so many dealers install them differently. I'm sure they give up on parts and just wing it.

Check out this video of the install (to include those pesky bolts)

Yeah - if not done so already, I'd call bs. I have personally installed 82252157AB on my '16 wk2 limited 75th and absolutely installed the 11/side M8 bolts in the door sills. Wasn't easy, but definitely went in as designed.

In addition to previous recommendations, I found the following YouTube link extremely helpful: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=XvWbl0856zc
