2012 Grand Cherokee Enable Daytime Running Lights DRL

Does anyone know if the daytime runing lights cane be enables on a Laredo? I asked the service guy at my dealer and he looked at me like I was from outer space. I would really like to enable and then add halo lights at some point.

Yes they can be enabled, all they have to do is to turn them on with their computer, very simple to do,maybe a 5 minute job. This service guy sounds like an idiot.

when i had my DRL turned on i told my dealer that they weren't working and they activated them as warranty work-no charge.

This took me a couple trips to a few dealers but the one was finally able to turn them on. I agree those the service reps looked at me like a was crazy until they checked with the tech.

Apparently they actually put the Jeep in "Canada mode" which turns them on, since they are a legal requirement in Canada.

If you have a Sirius subscription it will stop working once the vehicle is switched to 'Canada' country code - the radio will throw a 'Region mismatch' error.

When I imported my 2012 Laredo from the U.S and in to Canada, I took to my local Jeep dealer for the DTRL to be activated.

When I arrived to pick it up, it wasn't done. The service guy said "As soon as we plugged in to your ECM for the DTRL, the computer said to contact Chrysler USA". They said that they hadn't seen anything like this before. So the dealer sent some info to Chrysler USA and the next day we were called and said that the DTRL could be installed.

I wonder if anyone else that has imported a new 2012 or newer has come across the same b.s? Could be the dealer trying to stick it to me for saving $11k by not buying it from them?

My WK2 Laredo already had the DRL relays from the factory, all my dealer had to do is to go into their computer and enabled the high beam DRL, they didnt change the region code or anything and my sirius works just fine no problem.

Just a quick note - there is a difference between enabling DRL and changing to 'Canada' code. From my understanding, the dealers can enable DRL without changing country code, however this does not meet Canadian standards as when you turn the lights to the off position (the 'O' on the dial) the DRLs will turn off as well.

In Canada the DRLs need to *always* be on, without a physical means to turning them off.

I could be wrong, that's just how it was explained to me and it seemed to mesh - the original dealer enabled DRL but I had to get a second dealer to change country code to pass RIV import inspection.

FWIW!

when i put my jeep into drive, neutral or reverse the DRL come one and when i put it into park they go off, it doesn't matter what the headlight switch is set at.

Thanks for all the great info. How can I tell if I already have the relay installed?
