07 wk- liftgate ajar?

had this issue a couple times. once while driving down the road and once while having it sit in my driveway not running. the interior lights come on and the liftgate ajar message pops up. i opened and closed the liftgate several times and the message stays on. eventually, the message disappears and the lights shut off. considering taking it to the stealership to see if they can figure out the issue. the first time it happened was during a rain storm and the most recent time was this evening with cold temps and no precip. any ideas?

well, lots of lookers, but no replies. guess i'll have to take it to the dealership. i'll post the results here in case anyone else has this issue. maybe someone could benefit from it.

At the dealership now. Their first guess is either a faulty switch or latch. This was also my initial guess. I'll find out if that is the issue shortly and post when I have more info.

Re: 07 wk- liftgate ajar?

Ok, so the issue at hand is a faulty window latch and shrunken window seal causing water to short out the lift gate switch. Temporary solution was to unplug the connector so the onboard computer doesn't recognize the issue. May or may not be covered under warranty but shouldn't be too difficult to replace.

Wow this is what happens when we try to talk, type and do something at the same time...:D

Interesting situation. I have a similar problem on a rear hatch on another manufacturer. I had good luck with spraying the latch electronics connectors with contact cleaner and removing the source of the water. In my case it was a chassis molding strip that had worn over time and allowed water to seep in.

Re: 07 wk- liftgate ajar?

i know i found the seal and latches online for about 250 total. only took the dealership an hour to do it all. the guy said it's a fairly easy fix if you have some mechanical knowledge. the heat coming out of the vents sounds like a vent door isn't closing properly or something. not a difficult fix either, though time consuming as i'm assuming you have to tear apart the dash to get to it. the tpms light may be due to a faulty sensor or consistant cold weather. my light has been on the past couple days because the temp dropped to a chilly 9.

from jeeppartsdiscounters.com

liftgate latch- $75.90
lift glass weatherstripping- $22.25
no available lift glass latch.
kinda glad the dealership covered this for me for free, but it's nice to know it wouldn't have been a very expensive fix.

I had this issue with my WK. all I did was clean all of the contacts with electrical contact cleaner and oiled all of the latches. Haven't had a problem sense.

Re: 07 wk- liftgate ajar?

well, about a month after getting it fixed, it started up again. took it to my friend's house and pulled the liftgate trim off. contacts were soaked and i found the culprit. water is spraying upward into the liftgate handle, saturating the foam seal and running down the inside of the gate. unplugged the electricals and doused them with wd40. gonna see if i can figure out a way to make it more watertight when the weather isn't so cold and snowy/slushy.
