High pitch noise, louder when i turn the steering wheel

I have a 2013 Overland V6 with 1600 miles (1.5 month old) and I hear a high pitch noise coming from under the hood when the car is idling, and the noise gets a lot louder once I turn the steering wheel... (I don't hear it if I'm in the car). I'm trying to find out if this is normal or if I should worry about it.
Let me know if anyone knows anything about this.
Thank you!

Probably the electrical steering pump (or some valves in that circuit). I have the same noise which is louder when it gets colder.
No problems so far but had to add approx. 250ml steering fluid. No change in the noise though.

Its not normal as mine (20,000 miles) is deathly quiet at idle.

Make sure your steering fluid is in the range and if you need to add use the right fluid- apparently the spec changed recently.

So I checked the power steering fluid level, it was right at the MIN line. I put Mopar fluid that I bought from the dealer and it's close to MAX line now, but still the same high pitch noise, and it's definitively coming from the pump...

I've noticed the same annoying mechanical sound from my altitude. Seems like its louder when turning the wheels while in reverse. I'm going to check the levels tonight.

I was starting to think this was normal. The other day I was walking back to my car and saw a Laredo coming towards me in the parking lot, he had the same noise coming from his truck.

I think you found your answer right there.

Yea, I guess I did... now my question is if it's something normal for that pump and is the dealer gonna replace it? or all of those pumps sound the same?

Any update on the noise? What did the dealer say?

The dealer just told me that the noise is normal for the electric power steering pump, they also said they listened to another Jeep with the same pump and the noise was even louder. So other that inspecting it, they didn't wanna do anything. I guess I'll just ignore the noise for now and see if it makes a difference when weather gets warmer.

Hopefully yours had the right power steering fluid in it from the factory, and that someone at delivery or maintenance did not add the wrong fluid. The electric fluid is very specific, and if the wrong fluid is installed it will cause loud operation and eventual failure. You might want to insist the dealer drain and reinstall the fluid, and make 100% certain the correct fluid is used (2013 GC Owners Manual, Page 681):

MOPAR Hydraulic Fluid or equivalent meeting MS-11655, such as Fuchs EG ZH 3044 or Pentosin CHF 11s*.

*CAUTION: There is an Electric Power Steering (EPS) pump available on later build 2011 3.6L vehicles which require a different fluid (early build 2011 3.6L vehicles have a mechanical pump system which requires the use of Power Steering Fluid +4 which meets material specification MS-9602 or equivalent, and is not to be used in the EPS pump system). The EPS pump system uses fluid which meets material specification MS-11655 or equivalent. Do not mix power steering fluid types. Damage may result to the power steering pump and system if any other fluid is used. Do not overfill.

There were a number of late 2011 and 2012 early build 3.6L GC's with the (at the time) new electrical powering steering that had to have the pumps replaced, but yours is a 2013 and the issue was resolved. This never became an official TSB:
