New wheels/tires require speedo recalibration?

I put a set of wheels/tires from a 2012 Wrangler on my 2007 WK. New combo diameter considerably larger than stock. I understand the speedo will read low, but is there any NEED to have the speedo recalibrated at the dealer ($45.00)? I plan to swap back to the OEM combo during the summer months. I don't want to recalibrate every 6 months if I don't need to.

Use a tire size calculator to see how far your speedometer is off. Here is the thread... http://www.jeepgarage.org/f180/tire-...ator-6448.html . I had a F-150 that had factory 17" wheels and I put on 20". Speedo was exactly the same because of tire size

hypertech makes a calibrator... see the link below. They're around $230.

Get a Diablosport Intune and you can adjust it, along with tuning that will bring the Hemi more to life.

Re: New wheels/tires require speedo recalibration?

Thanks for all the tips. I went to the "tire size calculator" thread provided by "06HemiLtd" and tried 3 of the links in the thread. The calculator at Car / SUV / Van / Light Truck Tire Calculations was dead simple and the one I used. The new 255-70R18s are about 8 inches larger in diameter than the 245-65R17s that are OEM. So now I knw that a speedo reading of 65mph is really 70mph.

BUT, the question that remains is; Is there any system need for a recalibration? Will this inaccuracy have any negative effect on any vehicle systems?

thanks

every calculation that your computer does using wheel spin, speed, etc, will be off.

so will all your traction control, ABS, etc.

hence a 230 price to calibrate the computer/
