First winter

I bought my Jeep in February this year and besides a March trip to Whiteface in NY its seen little winter weather until now.

We have significant snow accumulation in the NC mountains now and last few days all the flat landers were demonstrating what not and how not to drive. Our road during winter conditions is signed 4wd or chains only but many, many ignore this. Last night I passed a mini van doing 5 mph down the hill only to get trapped behind a 2wd duelie pick up doing 10, nearly two miles down the mountain.

Out our window we are treated to the amusing sites and sounds of drivers ignoring the law and spinning their tires while creeping along at walking speeds and sliding into snowbanks, all the while imaging the bitching out that the driver is getting from his wife in the passenger seat.

Out the uncleared driveway, down the snowy roads and back up again in snow mode the Jeep with QD2 performed flawlessly. Life is damn good in a Jeep.

Still have your stock Fortera HL's on?

Out of curiosity, did you notice any difference between Auto and Snow Mode, besides it always starting in 2nd in Snow Mode?

Re: First winter

I tried both during the 9.5 inch storm last week. I really did not notice any difference starting out but I did in cornering. I tried to swing the rear around and I could not safely do it in SNOW mode.
Since it was the first snow I knew that piles along the sides of the road did not contain any ice. While at the post office, the plow came by and blocked the exit with a pile as high as the top of my bumper. While in snow mode I said to the wife, "Watch this!" She of course said, "Noooo". To which I said the often repeated phrase, "Don't worry, it's a Jeep". I slowly drove through the pile as if it wasn't there.

Moose' I am so jealous. We're still dealing with snow making here. :o

JC, yes, stock tires with 20k miles on them. I notice a big difference in snow mode from auto. Auto will slip up the hill but in snow it just climbs no problem.

yes ,it does make a lot of difference in snow mode in this situation where you have lots of snow ...i wonder how it will be with dedicated snow tires on those 20 in wheels...

I got my 2012 Overland in October of 2011. Yesterday was our first significant snow since I got her. I've been waiting a long time. We got 14 inches where I live. Stock Fortera's with 16,000 miles on them and I drove through it with ease. I did put it in snow mode and raise up to "off road 1" however. I came from a Wrangler that was absolutely unstoppable in the snow. I'm not sure the Grand Cherokee will be as good, but so far, not too shabby.
