ABS performance in 4wd low range

Hi all. With the recent snow in the northeast, I got to really feel out the Jeep while driving on unplowed, slippery roads. I liked the handling and ability of the truck to correct itself and prevent skids and stop from swerving sideways. "Snow" mode on the select terrain dial helps a lot also. Overall, I am happy with the snow performance. I will say though that in some of the heavy snow, I think I would have greatly benefitted from snow tires (I have the stock Michelins).

Anyways, sorry for the long introduction...my main question/concern is that after I placed the rig into 4 low range, I noticed two things. One is that the traction control light illuminates. From what I have found online, this appears to be normal and that it functions in "reduced" mode. Does this sound correct to everyone? Secondly, and my main concern, I noticed when braking, the car skidded quite a lot. The ABS was spot on and quick in auto mode or snow mode but not so in 4wd low. Does this get "reduced" like the stability control does? Or, was this a fluke? Has anyone else noticed the ABS not functioning in 4wd low?

I normally do not drive fast enough in low range to worry about skidding to far but will try to pay attention the next time I use it.

Thanks, let me know. And you may have a point...maybe I was going slower than I realized.

It would make sense for ABS to be off or reduced in 4-low. In off-road world, ABS can be really bad, and people often pull the fuse. If you're in 4-low then you're probably facing a slippery and/or hilly situation. In some circumstances when the vehicle slides a little a "wedge" of debris (snow/dirt) builds up under the tire that will help slow/stop the slide. If ABS kicks in, the brakes release and your wedge never forms and the slide doesn't stop as quickly.
