What oil for rear and front diff for Quadratrac II?

Hi guys,

The Jeep is getting some new oil tomorrow..

Just need a fast confirmation that Im on the right trac(k)

I have a 2006 WK Laredo CRD.

I do NOT have the Qudradrive II badge next to the gear stick.
If I understood correctly that means that I have the Quadratrac II

So then it is 2 quarts (each diff) of 75w-140 fully synt. oil I need, but i DONT need the limited slip additive?

Ive been reading up and down here for one hour and there are as many theories as threads.. The QD II seems to be needing the LSA thou, but how is it with my QT II?

You are right 75-140 is what it calls for. The only thing the QDII calls for that is different is 4 oz of slip additive.

Thanks! 75w-140 seems to be a bit tricky to find here. Could 75w-90 work instead?

I would think it would work fine. I am surprised the are recommending t 75-140. When it gets cold , it would be like honey , lol.

75w-140 and the 75w-90 will have the same viscosity at cold temperatures.
So I dont think that will be a showstopper.

The difference is that the 140 will be thicker at a warmer temperatur contra the 90.

But maybe the gears in the diff prefers thicker oil at operating temperature?
I will try to find it first hand..

From what I can see of all the others. They use the 75-140 on the jeeps / trucks that do a lot of heavy towing or high heat conditions. They switched back to 85-90 in the wk2. I have run 75-90 in both a LJ and Yj both with e lockers in them with no issues.

I am not sure what the difference with grands made from 05-10 that would make them any different the the wk2 or other diffs in any other GC .

I wish I knew ....

you cant compare gear oil to motor oil as you linked to above . there are differences . here is a link to a explanation of differences. I am learning as we go here, lol but this is the 3rd or so article ,study ,etc. that says you can not compare them.

here is a interesting study by someone for amsoil . Please keep this in mind when reading it but, it tests a boat load of gear oils .

I actually found 75w-140 a the local dealer, it was priced like unicorn blood but
after some arm wrestling about the price I was satisfied.

(Sadly it didnt quiet the rear diff down) i got a whining kind a sound which varies with the rpm but it dosent sound bad, just transmission noise I guess..

WalMart carries 75w140 for $11 and some change per quart. Just bought 4 qts and changed mine. Couldn't find it anywhere else and was afraid to ask the dealer for a price. How much did you end up paying for it at the dealer?

Bit of a hijack but im hoping you could help me. I just got a dealer quote for ~750$$$ for a Trans+transfercase+F/R Diff oil change alone! this ATF+4(only the damn dealer has it apparently) requirement is killing me!!

anyhow, i want to shave as much off as i can by atleast doing the diff oils my self. Is it 4oz of additive per diff? if 75-90 is also ok, im assuming a # between 90-140 would also work? IE- 75W-100 ?
