Transmission won't engage! :-(
After 25 months of trouble-free driving, my 2011 Hemi Overland has it's first problem. I started my Jeep today, everything seemed normal until I shifted into 'Reverse'. The shifter moved into reverse, but when I applied a little throttle, nothing happened. I moved the shifter into 'Drive' and applied the gas, again nothing happened. I let the engine run for about 45 minutes to warm up. No change, but the Check Engine light came on. My Jeep had to be towed to the dealership late this afternoon (Friday). Good news is that Chrysler Customer Service was very helpful in arranging the tow (the tow truck arrived within 20 minutes of my call). I haven't received any update from the dealership, so it looks like I'll be without my Jeep for at least 2 or 3 days.

I've heard there have been a number of issues associated with the Jeep auto tranny. I'm guessing my problem is with the TCM. It should be covered under warranty. I'll keep you posted on the problem and its solution.

Re: Transmission won't engage! :-(
Got a call from the dealership this morning (Monday). The transmission problem was fixed.

Apparently, the transmission fluid filter became dislodged and was blocking the fluid flow. The Jeep's computer sensed a drop in fluid pressure and basically shut the transmission down, to prevent any damage to the transmission. The Check Engine trouble codes identified the transmission pressure issue. I'm assuming the filter wasn't assembled in the transmission properly at the factory, and over time it became dislodged. I'm just glad it happened in my driveway and not away from home. Kudos to my dealership for promptly identifying and fixing the problem.

Hopefully this is an isolated problem, and not an issue with other Jeeps. But, I've got a gut feeling that if it was a factory assembly issue, there might be other Jeeps out there with a similar problem waiting to happen.

I've seen it in vehicles that cost double a JGC. Assembly screw-ups happen in every factory for every automaker. Hopefully it is an isolated incident. Glad the dealership was able to correct the problem first try though!

Yes, it's a little concerning 'cause you'd think there's not too many ways to screw up putting in the fluid filter. Luckily the tranny technician at the dealership has a number years of experience under his belt, and knew where to start looking for the problem.

sounds like the dealership was being honest and forthright. they could've said, "needs a new tranny" and charged chrysler a few grand.

I've been pretty happy with my experience at this dealership. I've bought 4 vehicles from them so far, and only had one or two minor issues with their service. Whenever I raised a concern, they've been quick to make it right.
