Grand Cherokee Export Pricing

What makes the Jeep Grand Cherokee available in Europe so much more expensive than in the US? I heard about technical differences but can't believe it justifies the much higher price. Any information about the reasons, other than getting higher profit?

Could also have something to do with a significantly lower number in sales.

But it's the other way round as well. Just look at what equally equipped Audis, BMWs or MBs cost in the US. They are a great bargain compared to Europe.

From what I can find on the web, a 3L CRD Limited costs 38,595 in the UK. Here in Australia, the same vehicle cost $66,359AUD which converts to about 41,000. We regard the Grand Cherokee as a bargain compared to the usual Toyotas and Nissans.

Made a comparison between US and EU (Germany) official prices for a 2013 JGC Overland 4x4 Summit 3.6 l
1. without tax / with tax - assumed 10% on net price for US
2. 1 Euro = 1.3 US$

US 48,990 US$ net / 53,889 US$ gross

EU 64,180 US$ net / 76,375 US$ gross

Discarding the difference in tax and looking at net prices, the sticker price in Germany is 31% or 15,190 US$ higher than in the US.

There will be the transport cost from US to Europe but what would otherwise justify this large difference in price? May be Milous or our other expert friends know more.

Its called rip off pricing

Simple

Its called import taxes and fees. Every country is different. China charges huge import fees for example to bring a vehicle into china. Im sure some of these prices are for the same reason. They say it encourages people to buy domestic.....

Ouch!!

It a combination of freight, import taxes, consumption taxes, other government imposts such as luxury car tax in Australia, but also rip off pricing.

It's not a rip off, or people wouldn't be willing to pay it.
Anyone who feels they are being ripped off should shop elsewhere.
