Clicking seat

2012 Overland V6, 17,500 miles. The last few hundred miles, I've developed this very annoying clicking sound in my seat. Whenever I take off from a standstill, make a turn so that my weight shifts, etc, my seat makes an annoying clicking sound. I checked all the bolts securing the seat. they are nice and tight. It sounds like it's coming from somewhere within the base of the seat. I've tried repositioning the seat....no luck. It's pretty loud and driving me nuts. Anyone else experience this and have a solution? If I bring it in, I'm pretty sure they'll either tell me that they couldn't duplicate it, duplicated it but it can't be rectified, or that something like that isn't covered under warranty.

I had a a lot of seat clicking when moving the seat forward and back. Dealer replaced a bad seat rail.

Re: Clicking seat

2012 Overland Summit, and yes I also have a clicking seat when my weight shifts! :(

The noise in my seat is definately coming from the upper seat back, not the lower seat or mounts. It occurs as my weight is transfered into the seatback as the vehicle moves. It sounds like some internal plastic seat components are hung up on each other and rubbing against each other until they "pop" past each other & I hear a click! Really not sure if I want some barely competent dealer tech removing my summit leather to poke around in my seatback to attempt a fix!

Should be a covered warantee issue, if you decide to let them attempt a fix though!

I have a 2011 Laredo with the cloth seats. My front passenger seat starting squeaking really badly every time someone was sitting in it while I took a turn. Dealership replaced the isolator bushings on both driver and passenger seat.

2 weeks later the passenger seat is squeaking in the same manner. Went back to the dealer and they acknowledged it was a definite problem. They had to order some parts so it's not fixed yet but it will be in 2-3 days. I'll post again in this thread in a few days to let y'all know what happens.

Thanks for the replies. I've been repositioning my seat fore and aft and tilting the seat cushion at different angles. The clicking goes away after each repositioning but comes back shortly after. I'm also deciding if I want some idiot from the service dept to start taking apart my seat or if I just want to live with it.

Any updates?

Well the squeaking issue is fixed. The passenger seat bottom frame and the seat back were replaced. Man am I glad I got an extended warranty otherwise I would have had to pay just over a grand for this.

Hi redsoxx, just wondering if you ever got this fixed? I've got the exact same problem (though mine's a laredo with cloth seats). They have replaced the seat base already, but hasn't fixed it. Not sure if that was just the mounts though as the click seems to be from the foam bit of the base. Happens mostly over bumps and sometimes taking off, etc. Took a tech for a drive to demonstrate and it's booked in for them to have another look next week.

Just got my WK2 a few days ago, and I noticed it has the annoying clicking. I know over time I will either forget stop noticing the noise or I will deal with it at the dealer. I have a warranty still and plan on getting the extended warranty. Do you remember how long the repair took Schweibs?

To replace the seat bottom frame and seat back I dropped off my Jeep at the dealer so I didn't need to wait. If I remember correctly I picked it up the next day.

BUMP for a possible fix. Just spent the last 2 hours moving seat around. It was definitely coming from the seat base. Lubing everything did not help. The click sounded like it was coming from a stress in the base of the seat. So, I continued up and down with the rear seat base (mine made noise no matter where the seat was relative to front or back on the main rail).

I would hold the seat with different tension moving up and down, with a click about 1 inch from the rear seat base being at the lowest point. As others have said, my click taking off or turning would go away if I moved the base, but would quickly return.

FIX- Well it's either a sticker that I removed, or it is better because I adjusted the two retaining posts that hold the yellow wiring harness into the bottom of the seat. Both made a clicking sound. I tried to pull the posts out and figured if they broke I would just tape it up or let it float. Couldn't get it out, but moved it enough and when I did boy was it clicking like I'm used to hearing.

If it was the sticker---
The sticker / paper is on the right side, just above the main pillar going left to right (that rotates when you recline or straighten the seat back. I had my seat back off to be able to better see it. After nearly breaking a finger trying to get in there (pliers would be too easy)... I got it off.

Moving seat the noise appears to be gone. If I hold this sticker and brush my finger against the edge, it closely replicates what I heard.

Here's the sticker you are looking for. Good luck! I've been living with this for a long time. Today is a good day. :D

Re: Clicking seat

I have the exact issue with our 2014 Overland build 6/2/14. I thought it was the ENT screen rattling on the back, but I'm doing some investigating underneath now. Thx for the ideas!
