JGC WJ exhaust manifold gasket
Hi I am new to this site.
I know this has been written many times before and I have read all the threads BUT...

I am trying to remove the drivers side exhaust manifold, the two rear bolts are the problem, the top one has snapped off flush with the manifold and the bottom rear one WILL NOT MOVE.

I snapped an open end spanner while trying to remove this bolt, the bolt is corroded and seems to be stuck in there, I have used lots of WD40 ( we don't have PB Blaster here in the UK).

I have also tried 'mole grips' in desperation.

Any ideas on how to remove this bolt would be much appreciated, otherwise my local shop will be getting a call...

Many thanks,

Mark Bridger

Re: JGC WJ exhaust manifold gasket
Welcome to JeepGarage!! You can probably try taping the bolt to get it out.

Heat...use a torch (propane) to heat it up and try again. Have a fire extinguisher handy and don't overheating it (not glowing red) be careful not to burn anything

Re: JGC WJ exhaust manifold gasket
^^Or a garden hose and place wet rags as insulation to heat sensitive areas. The chemicals used in ABC fire extinguishers are very corrosive to electrical components and when discharged end up everywhere.

Re: JGC WJ exhaust manifold gasket
Thank you all for the helpful replies, I am going to try cutting the bolt off and removing the manifold, then I will remove the bolt from the cylinder head after.

Kind regards,

Re: JGC WJ exhaust manifold gasket
Got the bolt out with heat and persistence, another six hours work, all good now, hope the other side does not need doing as it looks even more difficult!
