Bad reception with pioneer aftermarket radio

I just recently installed a pioneer p1400dvd radio in my 2006 jeep grand cherokee Laredo. Everything works good except I have bad reception with my fm stations. I bought a attenna adapter to plug into the factory attenna wire. Does anyone know what could be the problem with the reception?

The problem is that the antenna lead isn't powered, aka, the signal isn't amplified. I recently installed a Pioneer double din unit and have the same problem. Talking to an audio installer, you need to run power from one of the power leads directly to the antenna lead and the signal gets stronger. It seemed weird to me too, but look it up with a google search. I found it on one page a while back that explained it, but that's what the issue is.

Just curious, will this help improve the FM on a stock REC radio? Seems the FM stations are not as strong as they used to be.

i had a pioneer f90BT in my 07 wk and the reception was great. I helped the installer I found on CS here in my garage and we didnt runa any extra power to the antenna lead and I had great reception. I had a 12 stubby antenna and never noticed any differnce from my RAQ and standard whip. I used the PAC harnesses........

just saying........
