Free for me, I have windscreen insurance as an option on my comprehensive insurance.

I actually have a tiny stone chip right on the driver's eyeline which is a defect in NSW. Rang windcreens O'Brien and was quoted $149 to repair it. As I have said windscreen insurance, I rang the insurance company who told me they wouldn't cover a repair, only a replacement. So I figured, why pay $149 for a repair when I can have a brand newie for free? Windscreens O'Brien then said, no problems, and tried to book me in the next day for a replacement. Hang on a second, is it an OEM windscreen I asked, thinking that seemed an incredibly quick turn around for a genuine windscreen. They try to give me the blurb that although it is not genuine, it is just as good etc.

No sale.

Insurance co will replace OEM with OEM, but if you take an aftermarket windscreen then you will only be able to replace it with aftermarket on insurance.

Bottom line, the windscreen had to be ordered from the states and will take a couple of weeks to arrive. I have an Overland and I believe the OEM windscreens are around AUD $2500!!! Insurance co. is happy to pay for a new windscreen but wouldn't pay $150 for a repair. Go figure.

No wonder premiums are so expensive.

Where is the common sense

Had the new windscreen fitted today. Invoice cost for the screen was $1570 + GST. Chuck in labour and you are well over $2k for a front windscreen. Apparently the rear screen is also very expensive but the side windows and panels are much more reasonably priced, according to the manager at Windscreens O'Brien I was dealing with.

Wow, glad I have windscreen coverage. Figured it'd be expensive with all the fancy automatic stuff.
