Siren alarm backup battery 2002 2.7 CRD RHD
Hello again,

I have realized that my Jeep has the premium version of the VTA. This was discovered when I electronically locked the vehicle and then disconnected the battery, whereupon the siren went off.

The Alarm Siren Module includes an NiMH backup battery, and I was wondering if, after 11 years, this battery may have deteriorated to the extent that its charge rate may be the cause of my previously (see posts on EVIC) mentioned system "drop-out" problems.

I know the manual says "The alarm siren module cannot be repaired or adjusted and, if faulty or damaged, it must be replaced.", but I put that in the stealership's category of "No mate, you (for which read "we") can't touch that." What is unsaid in this case is that they are too ignorant to be able to dismantle an electronic device and replace a (possibly) soldered in battery.

I could manage that O.K. but the ignorance I will admit to is not knowing where the hell the alarm siren module is located. The sketchy diagram in the service manual does little to assist with locating it.

Does your vehicle have this siren module fitted? If so, do you know where to find it? Could you please tell me?

Thanks in advance.

My jeep doesn' t have the module, but according the manual the siren unit is mounted to the left frame rail. Now your jeep being rh drive, it could eventually be on the right frame rail. Could you not first check the internal battery by disconnecting the main battery and see for how long the siren would work? You probably have to do that at some remote area to not get angry nabours, but it could safe you an unnecessary repair.

Good idea Frank.

Think I'll go out into the forest some time and try that.

Any idea how long it might last on a 'good' battery?

I have no figures on this. But to be effective, the alarm should be able to sound at least 15 minutes, but preferably longer. ( that is what i think is reasonable, but you could have an other idea ofcourse)
