Did we buy a lemon?
I am looking for anyones input here. We just bought a 2007 GC with the 3.0L Diesel. We have only had it a week and found out that there is oil leaking into the coolant. Our local dealer (not who we got it from) looked at it and said the radiator, heater core, engine oil cooler, and all hoses needed replaced. They said the hoses were soft from all the oil and it had been bad for some time. When we got it all fluids looked good but I did not check the hoses other than for leakage. Has this been an issue for this motor or is there any other major issue anyone knows of? We bought it with the intention of having another longtime member of our diesel family. Thank you for any input.

Re: Did we buy a lemon?
I have the same jeep, not heard of this happening, the main issue has been that the turbo hose leaks and can can issues with the swirl valve. There is an updated hose for this issue which has a black seal as compared to the old orage seal. i have had no issues with my rig. it sounds that oil is leaking externally onto the hoses and it could be the turbo hose seal? Oil leaking into the coolent is another issue.

Check your oil level? Is it high? Could be a sign of the head gaskets going.

Re: Did we buy a lemon?
..the oil can only get into the water at common interfaces, wich is primarily the head gasket and (if equipped) the water cooled AGR valve. as well sometimes there is an water cooled oil cooler (donīt know that for jeep)
Most of the parts mentioned by the dealer are peripheral parts and do not have an interface with the oil, so if anything leaks, it would be either water or oil and leak outside. Thus I think you should really ask somebody else....
BTW who found the oil in the coolant?

Good luck

Re: Did we buy a lemon?
seems to me the oil cooler also has coolant passing thru it. If so, that is likely the cause of the oil in the coolant.

Replacing the oil cooler is a big job, it sits under the fuel filter, on top of the engine block. A silly design in my opinion.

I will have a look at a picture I may have of it and see if the coolant input exists.

Re: Did we buy a lemon?
The CRD manual mentions that the oil is cooled by coolant via the oil cooler, therefore I believe its possible that a failure in the oil cooler could allow oil into the coolant.

A plate style external oil cooler is mounted in the “V” of the engine block. Engine coolant is used to cool the oil. The gasket should be replaced anytime you are servicing the oil cooler. When replacing the engine block, inspect the oil cooler for damage or restrictions. If the oil cooler is not damaged or restricted, it can be reused. Engine coolant is used to cool the oil. A platestyle
external heat exchanger is located in the valley of the cylinder block, below the EGR cooler. Two gaskets seal the oil cooler to the cylinder block. Replace the gaskets whenever the oil cooler is removed or replaced. The oil is fed to the oil cooler through the oil filter. With a maximum cooling power of 15 kW (51,200 BTU), the oil cooler ensures the maximum oil temperature does not exceed 135°C (275°F). After the oil cooler, the oil is fed to the balance shaft tunnel, which is simultaneously the main oil gallery of the cylinder block.

Re: Did we buy a lemon?
My XH history has had the oil cooler changed due to leaks, so it happens. Haven't heard of a HG going on these .
