Wanting to upgrade sound..warranty?

Hi everyone..I'm thinking about upgrading my 130res to the 430rbz. I also wanted to put in a sub/amp with the possibility of new speakers. My main concern is..will this void any warranty on my wk2?

Re: Wanting to upgrade sound..warranty?

I have read many different views and points on this subject. I was reluctant too. I bought a 2012 WK2 back in June and have already put a JL stealth box (highly recommend for clean look and very impressive low end), amp, and I picked up a 730n off EBay (not installed yet, have to have dealer flash to VIN). There is a law (magnusson/moss(spell check)). The law was enacted to protect consumers warranty rights where if they want to install aftermarket parts, they can and it will not void warranty provided that during the install, there is nothing that may cause failure. I decided to take that risk (if any?). I wish you the best on your install and or decision.

Greetings,

The following link gives more detailed information about the law:

FTC Validates Right to Install Aftermarket Parts | Specialty Equipment Market Association

This gives you a summary of law and then is another link you will see brings you into the Federal Trade Commission rulings. You can also search thru SEMA regarding specialty parts, which the car radios fall under.

Hope this help and best for now.:)

The M-M act basically says that they have to prove that whatever you did caused the failure. Given that the dealerships are the experts on the cars in the eyes of the law, it's not had for them to do in most cases.

If you install aftermarket amps and subs and your engine implodes, M-M will keep them from refusing to warranty the engine. If you have an alternator meltdown they say was caused by your amps pulling more power than is budgeted for external accessories, you're going to have no protection from M-M.

At the end of the day, if the dealership and manufacturer are fighting you over being covered by M-M or not, you're already going to lose.

If your concerned about voiding your warranty then you shouldn't even be asking the question.

Subbie**the point of having a forum is for asking questions..if you don't have anything constructive to say then don't say anything at all.

Greetings,

If you have a good relationship with your dealer service department, you can ask them for a reference to a quality shop. Many times, the mechanics or service advisors know people in the business and the quality of their work.

Best for now.:)
