Heater problem!!! (Hello from the Newbie)

Good morning, All.

I'm brand new to the forum and would like to say HELLO to everyone. Of course, I found the site while looking for solutions to a problem I'm having with my 2006 Jeep GC Laredo. My heat/ac would only consistently work on the HI setting; however, if I just happened to have it set at 1, 2, or 3, it would come on periodically for a few minutes, but then go out again. Three days ago, the HI setting began blowing at lower speeds and then not at all. Low settings began to work but only for a few minutes. Now, I have no heat at all...the fan is not blowing at all...no noise at all.

I've read about it possibly being the blower resistor, the blower motor, or possibly a switch (no details on the switch). I've even watched some videos and read some articles that I found for how to fix it, but none for a 2006 model year. I took off the panel under the glove box, but can't identify anything that remotely looks like the resistor.

It's been cold here in VA for the past 3 days, and it began snowing this morning. I'd prefer not to have to take this to the dealership if it's as simple as replacing the resistor. Is there anyone that help to point me in the right direction?

Regards,
Ren

WK is the model jeep you have. the grand cherokee from 05-10 is called the wk. 11+ is called the wk2. I had the same problem. my ac would not work on 2 and i unplugged the battery and it started working again. havent had a problem since.

More than likely its the resistor. To make sure.. unplug the blower motor connector and test the blower to a straight 12v battery (your car battery). It should come on, if the motor works its a resistor. I doubt its a switch, but its possible. I took my switch bezel all apart and regreased my contacts at the switch just incase too.

I just recently had this issue with my 2005 jeep grand cherokee laredo as well, it ended up being the wiring connected to the heat control was melting and it needed a new pig tail put in and a new resistor

This is one of the most common problems throughout the entire Jeep brand. Wrangle,Grand Cherokee,Cherokee, basically all of them have suffered this. By just replacing the resistor pack, and melted plug you are putting a bandaid on an amputation...you will be doing it again. The proper fix also includes adding relays to the system and replacement of the blower motor. It sucks yes but unless you want to keep buying heater controls because they keep melting its necessary.

Think Outside !- No Box Required.
