2014 GC HID Headlights

So it seems like a big topic around the MY2014 GC is the headlights and that black filler piece they put under them. When i first saw it, it did look odd but now i dont mind it at all.

However, I took my photoshop skills and put them to use to see what the MY14 would look like with the black plastic piece being color matched or the headlight being larger.

You can see the MY14, MY14 with color matched black piece and the MY14 with larger headlights in the attachments. (MY14 headlight is on the right side for comparison)

The color matched one looks more finished than the one with the black plastic piece. But the black plastic one looks more rugged.

What are everyone thoughts on the headlights?

I like the new headlight as it is less bug eyed.... But the way it has been deployed makes it look unfinished. If they would have kept the grill separate and used the bumper to fill in the gaps it would look better.

the new headlights are actually sick looking in person. Im not a fan of the black washer filler panel...but what do you do?

I am def looking forward to seeing them in person in a few weeks. I love my wrangler but i am ready for the new toy. Working as a web developer one learns to love anything with technology and the 2014 looks like its full of it.

Ive liked black accents on my vehicles. So with the granite body color, they should looks just fine.

Seriously, If I didn't already own a Jeep GC and I saw the 2014 GC headlights I'd probably say "hey, those look pretty cool." If I purchased the Jeep with the honeycome black section under the headlight and it wasn't a washer I probably would have said "what?! There's nothing under that?" I'd probably then look for an aftermarket product to fill in that section.

I've adjusted and like them how they are. I admit I hated it at first, but the spyshots didn't really make the updated model look good at all. I'll still want to give final judgement when I see if in person, but as of now I'm satisfied with it as is.

I am somewhere in between. Not an option obviously, but I would prefer the larger lamp and black reflector housing say of the first gen WK2, with modern HID and DRL, no jewelry strips, but with added washer from separate nozzle that sits below lamp (no filler panel).

In winter snow conditions, the washers get used quite a bit. Perhaps less so in other climates.

totally agree... i like the design but not how it's intergrated (or lack of) into the front. the grille lines is what ruins it, imo. I've seen it up close and in person and the darker colors definitely soften it some and look better.

All in all I really don't care. Although, I bet I will like the next generation better. I think they are balancing good looks and reusability of parts. Meaning, the basic grill piece is the same regardless of which headlights are there. As far as the shape being the same as the 300. I think it is for brand recognition. Unless they plan to use the same parts going forward. The 300 definitely has a different configuration with the daytime running lights. For one thing they don't go all the way around. As far as the lights themselves I like the GC's over the 300's...

Also, when I was test driving a 2013 Overland a New 300 came up behind me; on the 300 the LED DTRL turns off when the turn signal is on.

From the 300:

You do sound like me and obviously couldn't agree more! Technology in 2014 is sick!!! Nothing else on the market like it. Hate the plastic filler but can live with it.
