Nickel and Dime
I think my Jeep is going to kill me. So I have a 2006 Grand Cherokee Laredo with the 4.7L and QTII. It's got about 100,000 on the clock now. I just came back from Afghanistan and the damn thing is starting to fall apart. I installed an OME MD lift just before I left, and put on some 255/80R17 BFG MT KM2 tires on my Moab rims. Other than those two things it is completely stock. So over the last few days of sub-zero temperature here in Northern New York, I've noticed some issues. My Jeep desperately needs to have a high quality service done. I asked the wife to take it in while I was gone, but I was thoroughly ignored. I've noticed some slippage in the transmission, I have at least one CV shaft going out, there is a odd steering clunk on tight corners, I am hearing a strange sound on deceleration that sounds like the front diff, and there is a clunk from the front suspension when going over large expansion joints that sounds like maybe an a arm bushing, the front rotors are warped, and the pads are still the OE. I have to drive to TX in about three weeks, so I hope I will get my taxes back in time to afford all of this work. I think I might be screwed.

Re: Nickel and Dime
Im surprised the thing has not spontaneously exploded. Mine has been one big money pit since day one. First and last Jeep for me.

Re: Nickel and Dime
Not sure what it is, but im with wk2007. Jeep is SO MANY small ( and big things ) that go wrong ALL the time it seems. Mine only has 24k on the clock.. but it's 6 years old.. it's like time destroy's these things. While mileage isn't an issue.. it appears anything 4 years or older just.. kinda falls apart. Im not sure why jeeps have these issues, but they do. Ive had cheaper cars, crappier cars, and .. it's just horrid. I still can't understand how a 27k car( low end when it was new ) could have so many issues, when my 18k corolla just.. won't die. and the corolla see's more off roading than the jeep does. it's a sad sad era for jeeps.. but we just have to keep pushing. Hope all works out for you.

Re: Nickel and Dime
Forgot about the windshield that just cracked due to the arctic temperatures here, and the sway bar end links.

Re: Nickel and Dime
Did it sit the whole time you were away or was it driven?

and Thank you for your service!!

Re: Nickel and Dime
Those sound like typical problems with a 100k + WK

Start with the front sway bar bushings and end links. They're relatively cheap and should solve some of your front suspension clunks. I paid $18 each for the front sway bar end links, got them from RockAuto... Made by Moog.

As far as Brakes i would recommend Wagner Thermo quiet pads and OEM rotors. You wont regret these pads, they have awesome stopping power and create hardly any brake dust at all.

BTW... Thank you for your service!! :D

Re: Nickel and Dime
It wasn't the primary vehicle, but it was driven the whole time I was gone. I'm really tempted to trade it in on something else, but I know that the resale value on these things is complete garbage. Everytime I see an 08 or newer Overland with the saddle leather interior though it is very tempting.

Re: Nickel and Dime
Lesson I also learned is not to leave it up to the woman for having car maintenance done ! The items you mention are mainly lower cost regular service replacement issues, no biggee. Jeeps do require a lot of attention for maintenance, more than any other vehicle I've owned.

Re: Nickel and Dime
I'm seriously considering trading it in on a 2008 Overland I found nearby for a decent price. It has only 15k less miles on it, though. But it is optioned out the way I would have done it when new. Brilliant black, and Brown Saddle leather interior.
