Newb looking to upgrade stock stereo...
Hey guys, I'm sorry if this has been covered already but I'm new to this and have a few questions about upgrading my stock head unit. I've got a 2005 with the boston acoustics system. I'm looking at adding the pioneer 1400 HU to my GC. I know I'll have to buy the navigation bezel as well. My question is: how much of this is plug and play? Will it work with the stock amp, or is an aftermarket one needed? I don't want to add any subs or anything (though I may look into upgrading the speakers at a later time). Is this something I'd be able to accomplish with a basic understanding and instruction manual, or is it recommended that an audio technician install it? Thanks ahead of time, and sorry if this is a repost.
Re: Newb looking to upgrade stock stereo...
Im not familiar with the 1400 headunit but im assuming it is a nav unit being that you are buying the bezel. I would recommend that you check around on the forums before you shell out the money at the dealer. As for the plug and play you will need to use the 80 wiring harness to get all of the features of the nav unit and will lose the factory amplifier. If you are some what familiar with installing stereos and are fairly technologically inclined you should be able to tackle it in the driveway without any issues. I installed mine in about an hour with the harnesses already wired.
Let me know if you have other questions.
