Diesel Skidplates

The dealer after changing my oil on my 2007 Diesel Grand Cherokee didn't tighten all the bolts on the the engine skid plate which of coarse ripped when I hit some snow and Jeep is absolutely clueless about anything to do with the diesels. Neither the dealer or corporate can tell me if the engine skid plate is compatible with other Grand Cherokee models or is unique, all the dealer says is we don't see many of these and don't know. Jeep wants over $400 for a new piece of plastic, what a joke.

Does anybody know if the skid plates on the 2007 Diesel Grand Cherokee is the same as the regular GC and or does anybody know where I can get real metal skid plates and not this cheap junk Jeep puts on their cars.

My CRD diesel came with the Chrysler metal skid plate, its quite heavy and awkward to get out of the way when wrenching on your back. I went out and bought the Chrysler plastic version that I keep on for day to day usage, and only install the metal skid plate when I know I will be off road. Oil can be changed without removing the skid plate, however, oil can get spilled on the skid plate so I always remove it to have full access to the oil drain plug. The oil filter on the diesel is accessed from the top of the engine.

My experience is that the WK engine skid plates are interchangable between gas and diesel. I will check my parts manual and confirm and report back if I find out otherwise.

Thanks much, it would be helpful if you could confirm if they are interchangeable as no one at Chrysler has been able to do so. Thanks in advance....

Re: Diesel Skidplates

seem to be 3 skid plates in the parts manual
55157121AB (changes up to 55157121AC) <--suspect this is a plastic one
52090316AF (changes up to 52090316AG) <--suspect this is the metal one
52124064AB (changes up to 52124064AC) <--suspect this is a plastic one

interesting that the suspect plastic versions above also fit the LX body according to some Mopar parts websites. Now, the other suspicion I have is that the last two on the list above are meant for vehicles with the plastic filler piece between the radiator and the front cross member. I have the version of the plastic skid plate that does not line up with the holes on the plastic filler piece, that just means I just cannot connect to the 2 pieces together and its no big deal to me.

Re: Diesel Skidplates

I called one dealer and he quoted me $419 for a plastic shield, I told him he was on crack and hung up. I called up another dealer and he quoted me $160 for a plate not sure if it was plastic or steel but he then said he had a Mopar replacement steel one for $62. I looked at it and it was heavy duty so it is now bolted to my GC. Baffled why this one was so cheap but it made my day. $419 my ass.......

Nice to hear !! I can't understand the funny prices from dealerships , the last times i've asked where is the gold inside the pieces they sell :D ( ex 10 ~10$ for a plastic rivet... what a joke)
but they are serious
Just in case I've found the same Pn as Suzieque

Does anyone have a part number for the skid that goes onto the rear of the engine skid, Covers the underside of the transmission.
It was missing/on my 2007 CRD Grand Cherokee the broken fixing tabs are still in place with the bolts but the cover must have been damaged at sometime.

are you asking about the plastic (silencer) shield that covers the transmission for the CRD? I've never seen a metal version of that, I was going to get one made up though. :)

52124316ac is the part number for the plastic one. Mine got damaged so I replaced it.
