Replacing Side Lights on a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Good morning. I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee identical to the middle JGC in the banner.

This past weekend I took it in for an inspection, and it failed because I neither of the sidelights work. Mechanic said it was 12.99 a bulb, and $59 labor each, so a total of almost 150 to replace two lightbulbs.

Being the poor person that I am, I declined and told them I'd try to replace them myself.

Went to Autozone, found the bulbs for 4.99 (for both).

Popped the hood, found no way to access the side lights.

Bought the Haynes manual - was told I needed to remove the headlight assembly.

After I took the grill off, the Haynes manual says to remove three screws to take the headlight assembly out. I found the one on top (obviously), the one underneath, but can't find the third. Haynes book says it's to the bottom inside corner of the light, and I see what looks like a screw, but it seems impossible to remove. I can't fit any tools in there.

Am I poking at the right thing?

Could someone offer assistance?

I've searched high and low on the internet for answers, or pictures of what I need to be looking for, but with no luck. Times are tough financially, and Id hate to pay so much just to replace some bulbs.

Much appreciated to anyone who can offer assistance

you don't have to remove headlights, bumpers, or anything else to replace those marker bulbs. just lay on the ground and reach your hand up through the space. I have big arms and huge hands and was easily able to reach mine. if you search for "side marker" you will see tons of posts where people have changed them. i think it's a 194 bulb

Thanks. I found the info I think I need after searching what you suggested.

Hopefully I can get it done. Thank you very much.

Laying on the ground you can get a 1/4" drive socket(10mm ?)/rachet in to get that 3rd bolt on the bottom of the headlight assembly if needed in the future. Turn tire all the way 'In" to view better.

Just wanted to say thanks again to those who assisted.

I can not believe how simply this procedure was. I also can not believe the shop wanted to charge me 12.99 per bulb, when I bought both for 4.99, then almost 60 to install each bulb, when it was a 3 minute job on each one.

Avoid TreadQuarters on Centerville Turnpike if you're in Chesapeake VA.
