Fog Problems
I am having problems with all my windows fogging up. I was having this problem until we realized the radiator was cracked and need replaced. After replacing that I wasnt having any fogging up problems. But ever since a few days ago all my windows will fog up.They started fogging up the day after we had 60 degree weather and dropped to 0 degrees.
My defrost only clears up the area on the windshield above the vent. So basically my whole windshield is fogged up except a little section in the middle, plus all my other windows are fogged.
I have tried having my defrost on full blast and as hot as it can get, tried using the AC, tried using the AC with full heat defrost, tried not using the defrost, tried cracking the windows, and I even tried rain-x anti fog wipes that did nothing.
I have cleaned the windows a few times now, and I can wipe them down with a rag but the fog comes back in a few minutes.
I do not see any coolant leaks, my coolant levels havent changed, and my floor on the passenger side isnt wet.
I think maybe it still has something to do with the heater core but im not a mechanic.

This has been a huge headache and I am needing some huge help.
Thanks for any info you can give me.

Re: Fog Problems
Sounds like a leak somewhere. Maybe moisture left over from the heater core swap. Anytime there is a leak in the vent system it will do that. Do you have a cabin air filter? It could have been saturated from the leaking heater core and is still wet. Look for any place it could have pooled up or anything that could be saturated from the leak.

Re: Fog Problems
When you select defrost, automatically the AC will come on as well, but you wonīt see the light in the button. Normally in this position, any mist on the windshield should disappear rapidly. Do you feel a lot of air coming from the windshield air outlets when in defrost mode and no air from any other outlet?
The carpets are dry, but did you check also under the carpets? When there is a good leak, it can become very wet under the carpet and this will not dry when you donīt remove the carpets first. With higher outside temperatures the humid air will not condensate that easy on the windshield, but when it becomes colder outside, it will.

Re: Fog Problems
replaced the radiator, not the heater core

the majority of the air is coming from the defrost vent, not the other 4
this morning i used the floor heat only (no defrost) and my windows still fogged

I think this weekend the dash is getting ripped out and a new heater core might be going in

Re: Fog Problems
although it sounds like youre on the right track, for what its worth every time i or anyone i knew had a heatercore go bad the smell of coolant was very obvious i dont believe you have mentioned that, have you.

seems like if the core was leaking you would see a mist or fog coming out of the vents and also you said the only place it didnt fog was where the air came directly out of the vents. logically wouldnt that be where most of the steam would be i dunno perhaps cuz the glass is hot is dosent form there.
What do the windows look like in the morning when you go out to start the truck? are they all foggy then? maybe you could look into renting a pressure tester for the cooling system, from what ive seem on youtube grand cherokee dash are a bitch i did the one in my xj it was not all that bad but the grands are worse, way worse. might wanna pull the carpet back and check under it first

I have never smelled any coolant smells yet. It has had a really bad musty smell since I bought it almost a year ago. The smell got a lot better once we found the drain and blew some leaves and crap out but I can still smell it.
I have seen a mist/fog come out of the defrost vent maybe like 3 times.
I have yet to pull the carpet up.
When I start the jeep my windows are usually pretty clear with some patchy fog on the sides but once I start driving it changes.

I attached some pictures to show what I am dealing with.

Re: Fog Problems
i had a thought, suppose you remove the rad cap and try running the heat that will prevent pressure from building up and if you can do this without fogging id say its def the heater core, probably wanna do this at home as some coolant will be lost, as the engine warms up. aside from that other than getting one of those pressure testers, im sure youre right

Re: Fog Problems
Thanks for all the info so far guys. Upon further inspection I have found some leaking coolant than was not there recently. The housing underneath the glove box is moist with coolant. The moisture is sticky and smells like the nasty musty smell I have been smelling. I will update after this weekend. Hopefully all goes well.
