smoke at start up normal for Hemi?

Every now and then my 2011 Limited with the hemi v8 will emit a puff of smoke at start up, not everytime but randomly. the jeep has 24k on it, is this normal or should a trip to the dealer be in the future? It runs just fine otherwise. ps i read thru the forum about the catch cans and i did order a billet catch can for my jeep, do you think it will help? Thanks

Some Hemis tend to do that every now and then. My SRT8 certainly did. It's good that you ordered the catch can to stop any more oil from settling in your intake manifold, but you probably want to do something like a Seafoam treatment to get rid of the oil that's already there.

It's probably related to parking nose up on a slight incline. A small amount of oil is able to drip into the rear cylinders (I think). There has been a few discussions about it on here. I saw it once on mine but I generally park nose down on an incline for that reason.

The fix from Jeep is a oil pan and windage tray replacement. The parts are not available yet, but should be soon. A trip to the dealer is required first.;)

Is there some guidance on the seafoam procedure? I have done it on the FX and Accord, but not yet on the Jeep. Which vacuum line do you use?

I bet they didn't even apply this fix to the hemi engines going into the 2014 WK's.

Mine seems to have calmed down since hitting about 4500 miles.

Im going to take it to the dealer Monday and let them diagnose it since it has the 3 month pre owned warranty from them on top of the factory warranty. Hopefully they will be able to reproduce it and give me an explanation and a solution. At least i know what to look for and to tell them to check..

Yeah because it makes so much more sense for Jeep to be paying out money on warranty claims to fix a problem at a dealership that could have been eliminated by simply using the new correct parts during the building process.

I still bet there will be 2014's that will do it.
