how to disable Air bag system due to recall
Hello folks, I just read about the recall on '01 to '04 WJ's due to possible inadvertent front and/or side airbag deployment. So , my question is what is the best way to disable the entire airbag system until Jeep gets the parts delivered to the dealership? I don't like the idea of getting punched in the face or side of head whilst driving down the Autobahn! Would just pulling the fuse under the dash disable the whole system, or just the monitoring hardware? Thanks for any insight on this!

Re: how to diable Air bag system due to recall
Fuse 32 and 33 on the junction block are the two power feeds to the airbag control module. Removing these 2 fuses should prevent the drivers, passengers and side airbags to deploy, but it will also prevent the seatbelt pre-tensioner to work.
The manual however says that only disconnecting the battery negative terminal makes the system safe to work on it.
I wonder however if it would be wise to disable this safety system, because how many times did this system save lives and how many times did it deploy inadvertently?

Heh, Funny thing is that I also agree with Frango, and was planning on driving my backup car ('94 Mazda 626) until this gets taken care of. I've only been driving the Jeep for about a year now but, when I sit in the Mazda I feel like my butt is about to scrape the ground and when anything around me moves I feel like I'm about to get crushed!
